It's interesting I find the LV increases more palatable than Chanel. I am after a mini PA. In the time I have been looking at it it's gone from £190 to £230 (never in stock online). That's 40 quid up. It won't break the bank and it's a annoying to spend a little more but there is worse price gouging going on. Chanel goes up a ridiculous amount more with each increase pricing people out COMPLETELY on most things. But maybe I am fine as my interest in LV is limited to canvas SLGs. Just my thoughts.

I am in SHOCK over this price increase!! OK I am not really into the purses/bags, so I realize I am a bit of a weirdo here......But I do collect hard side cases. There's something about a stack of LV suitcases that makes my heart palpitate ....Sorry I digress..... I am reading about how fierce the price increases are on the bags, 20% up for the year on some (or more) But I couldn't believe that the cost of a boite bouteilles (cosmetic hard travel trunk) went from 5ish K to $8600??!! WTH?? Do they never want to sell another? Are they gold plated now? Anyhoo I haven't been here for years, but I had to read what y'all thought about this one during this time frame. It is NUTS!!! V
This was my exact sentiment. After reaching contentment with the bags I already have I wanted to conclude my collection with some hardsided pieces starting with a coffret tresor 24 which I got late last year and noticed after the 1st increase had gone up by over £800. Granted the prices for the hardsided pieces have been the same for a long while it was still a shock to see the prices of the box with mirror and toiletry case (pieces I was interested in purchasing) increase by over £2k.

After kicking myself for not getting more before the increase and getting something that didn't increase. I have decided to take a chill pill. Yes I would have liked to get more but because of the limit restrictions I didn't want to go overboard and have my order cancelled and therefore end up with nothing.

These restrictions that they put in limiting how many items you can buy within a period means that I have to be careful not to go over my limit. In total I technically can only buy 1 more leather item this year so I had wanted to save that spot for something else later on in the year.

Between things not being in stock, trying to match items and gifts how do they expect people to keep to only buying 12 leather items per year?
Also does anyone know if this restriction been loosen during the lockdown?

People buy luxury goods for all kind of reasons. For you, it's quality. For others, it would be association of luxury lifestyle/ to show off. With Instagram, many millennial buy luxury bags so they want to come off as wealthy so they can gain followers. Then in turn, these millennial influencers can get sponsors to give them money so they can spend that money as they please. The point I'm making is people buy these luxury bags for all kinds of reasons and I'm sure there are other reasons why people buy them besides the few I listed.

Luxury have always touted itself as quality. Sometimes that is true. Sometimes it's not IMO. LV actually makes pretty good quality bags. They often stand behind their bags as you can return them most of the time if there is obvious quality problems. They recall bags if certain style becomes too problematic due to whatever reasons. You can also bring your older bags to have them fix them at a cost/ or sometimes free. Try that with most brands and they definitely don't do that. All of these comes with added cost which is priced into buying a LV bag. Surly you have bought stuff from H&M before. I can assure you H&M isn't likely to take any hand bags back after 30 days and I would challenge you to find any H&M bag that last as long as LV bags.

LV wants two types of consumers imo. One type is who can go into LV and buy anything they want. They don't have to save up. Those ones are obviously in the minority and LVMH will not have the numbers they have if they only cater to that type of customers. I would bet majority of the customers at LVMH buys maybe one or two bags a year. Those are the ones who you see post here quite often saying they have speedy, neverfull, toiletry pouch, key pouch, etc. that saved on their online favorite tab. These people are bread and butter for LVMH. At the end of the day, there are only hand full of people who can buy multiple LV bags at once. In order for LVMH to make their number, they have to cater to general public instead of just to ultra rich.

Judging from the number of posts under LV tab (compare to Chanel, Dior, Hermes, Coach, etc.), I'm pretty sure LVMH has succeeded in their strategy.

I don't know if I would call customers who only buy one or two bags a year their bread and butter and people who only buy one or two bags a year are not their target customer.

Lol. Sorry. I’m not sure what part of what I said doesn’t make sense. But obviously we all have opinions so I’ll just leave it as we disagree.

Just so you know I’m in no way think it is right for LV to increase their prices at this point in time. I’m just putting myself in their shoes and think what make logical sense for them to increase price. If by increasing prices by $50 or $100 and all of a sudden people can’t afford to buy LV, then these people aren’t likely be the bread and butter audience for LV. I certainly understand people’s frustration as I’m in the same boat as well. Who wouldn’t like to buy LV at a lower price point? All I’m saying is I’m sure lv has done their marketing research forwards and backwards and predict that the money they will gain from these price increases will not hurt their overall bottom line. Of course nothing is certain and I’m sure we will find out if their strategy works during their next earning call.
The doesn’t make sense part was directed at LV not you. Your post are somewhat confusing to me because they seem contradictory from one post to the next but oh well. I’m tired of beating a dead horse at this point.

Truth is, if you head over to the “stalking” thread, people are still stalking their items and plan on buying what they want despite the price increase. And that is the reality for the majority of luxury consumerism.

Now, please let me be clear; I do not agree with LV increasing their price 3x this year, but I do understand price increases in general. I remember paying 600$ for my speedy almost 20 years ago, it wouldn’t make sense if a speedy still cost 600$ when you have MK and coach bags that retail for more!

Same goes for Chanel. Yes, these price increases suck, But it wouldn’t make sense for a medium flap to cost 2500$ as it did years ago when you have baisic Gucci that retails for the same right now.

I remember buying my 1st Rolex only 7 years ago, I paid 9200$ Brand new. Same one retails for just over 15000$.

So, unfortunately, it’s the same for all items, contemporary or lux.

Agreed but let them increase once or twice a year .. and achieve what ever increase they aimed at with 2 increases annually instead of increasing in drips over the year

I don’t think they’re that strict in the limitations for items. I think the limit is more likely to be enforced if you’re a new buyer or you seemingly only buy the HTF items. So I think if your pattern looks like you might be a reseller or you don’t have history with the brand, it is more likely to be enforced.

I’ve bought more than 12 leather items in the past year but those were a mixture of bags and SLGs. It was also spread out over time and a mixture it in-store and online purchases. I just ordered three bags last week and had no issue (one had a defect so I had to order a second one).

I like price increase because that means the bags I own will keep their values or at least don't lose as much when I resell them, and I will still buy LV bags if they hold resale value.

P.S I just bought another Neverfull GM (have several Neverfull MM already otherwise would buy MM too) as soon as knew price will increase, do I use it? probably not but just like to keep it, same to some of my other LV bags too, may only use once a year if that.

I think price increase is a good thing, if people really don't want to pay full price they always can go for secondhand, that way helps people want to sell their bags too, a good thing I think. Take a look of secondhand market, for the brands that don't hold value, people have tough time to resell their bags, or lose shirt to get rid of their bags.
