Reviving this thread - I read on here the suggestion to buy at the LV hawaii store and then send it to the mainland in order to save tax. I just called the Hawaii store, though, and they said they can no longer send any bags to the mainland, even if I purchase it at the hawaii store. Can someone confirm this? So, really, there is very little benefit to buying a bag while I am in hawaii? The bags I'm considering are only about $30 cheaper than in the mainland. I do know tax in hawaii is a little less so I'd save there as well.

The prices are still cheaper and the sales tax is way cheaper so overall you can still save some money. I saved over $200.00 (if you factor in the tax) buying my Brentwood there vs the states. I would advise you to not carry a bag to Hawaii and just buy it there and carry back. You can also carry it on the plane with your carryon luggage.

Does hawaii still sell/ship bags from their store? I came back a month ago and there was something that I really wanted and should of bought. I purchased from their store when I went there.
Over the years, ive heard other TPFers referring to prices being lower in Hawaii, but I don't recall seeing an explanation as to why. Let me know! TIA!!
The general sales tax in Hawaii is lower. For the state it's 4% and depending on zip code or county, it can vary from 4-4.5%. For example in the county of Honolulu (Oahu) where the main LV store is located, it's .5% for the zip code so the combined tax is 4.5%. Some businesses charge up to 4.712% maximum in tax because the state allows them to.
Hawaii is considered the Asian market, not the US market....at least that's the explanation I have seen. It's about 4% cheaper than mainland US prices. Then the tax is a little over 4%. I live in Chicago where our tax is 10% so buying in Hawaii is a good savings for me. Not as good as Paris, but still very good!

We're lucky to be part of the asian market & have a lower tax rate. Oahu's GET is higher because they're paying for the Rail. Outer island boutiques are still 4.166%. On top of that, we have a super cool hot stamp exclusive to us. I won't complain.

All I know is that the retail in the rest of the US for Calvi is $1820 before tax and I paid $1650 before tax in Hawaii so not only is their sales tax cheaper, but their MSRP is cheaper! My sales tax at home is 8.8% and in Hawaii I paid 4.7%

We deserve a break from paying higher prices for everything in Hawaii lol. The reasoning I've always been given also is Asia market. I went into Valentino the other night and they told me they were doing "Hawaii pricing". Not an LV but it was eye candy for sure!

Is this the same for other luxury brands on the island such as Chanel?
Not for Chanel, I think the price of a caviar jumbo when I checked last year was $5500 in the mainland but $5900 at Chanel In Hawaii. If I want to buy Chanel, I'll order from BG or NM in the mainland and because it's shipping to Hawaii for BG I pay no tax and NM charges me Hawaii tax
This is great info! Can anyone speak to prices at Hermes in Hawaii? I see it is in Honolulu, so 4.5% tax? That is still a huge savings over ~10% tax here. Are pre-tax prices at Hermes any lower than mainland?
