You're right - the journey begins with Monogram (my first was predictably a vintage MC Speedy 25) and simply evolves from there! New buyers are unlikely to be familiar with the Epi, but they've all seen the Monogram 1000x over. Makes sense to me.
A lot of it has to do with the subtlety of Epi leather. Many people buying LV want the status symbol of the bag-- IE Monogram, with the logo all over the place-- so they would rather buy preloved mono than Epi as it's not as glaringly LV to the untrained eye. Sad, too, because many of the leather pieces are truly beautiful.
Yep agree completely! Mono is def more recognizable regardless if that is the original print or not. I got my first Epi a couple weeks ago and it's not because I didn't like it before but I feel I wanted an understated bag for those times like school or meetings that's not so loud. Some of my friends didn't even realize it was LV and they still prefer the mono bags to take wherever. I think it also has to do with growth as a person/handbag lover as well. I do have my mono and damier bags but I also prefer the more subtle looks. Even my Chanel gets less stares than my LV!
