Well I learned something today I called Louis Vuitton 18668848866
They said they don’t have date codes in there data base any more because of counterfeits
She said the only way to determine authentic is by the actual receipt from the boutiques and Louis Vuitton stores so if your buying that bag don’t buy unless you see the actual receipt of purchase
Meaning purses with no receipt
You have no proof cause u can’t look up to verify the number is above if you like to call I called them about a Louis Vuitton nano pallis clutch with gold chain made in France

I don’t think you learned what you think you learned. First, what exactly did you ask Customer Service? I want to make sense of what you said to them before I can begin to understand what you believe you were told. If you were trying to authenticate a bag over the phone with CS, without doubt they would blow you off with some claptrap.

What you’re saying is quite wrong. It’s possible—of course it is!—to buy preloved authentic items without an original receipt (not to mention that receipts are the easiest thing to fake). Solid authentication definitely exists (inc from the authenticators here on TPF) without need for original store paperwork. Date codes are meaningful, but not the whole story for authenticating.

I asked her to check my code and the explanation I got was what I posted go phone them I talked to mindy before u say what u say go call ask them that’s why I posted their number mindy is client services toll free number she will tell u the same ps yw

It is my understanding that date codes were never meant to be a source of authenticity for an LV bag. They are not a unique serial number. Of course you can look at the date code to help authenticate a bag just as you would any other aspects such as the hardware or heat stamps but a date code is just that, the date the bag was produced. Hundreds of bags will share a date code.

They don’t use codes in system any more

As others have tried to explain, date codes are just codes that show when and where the bag was made. They aren't a unique identifier since all bags made in the 35th week of 2018 will share the same date code and letters if they're from the same facility. They are still putting codes on the bags because bags that were made this year and being delivered into the hands of clients have date codes stamped into them.

I see so many people confuse date codes with serial numbers, which they're not. Date codes won't be unique to each bag. Serial numbers, on the other hand, are unique and not something LV stamps into their bags.

It means if your purse doesn’t have receipt Louis Vuitton will not honor repairs so that pre loved purse they won’t fix they said there way of authenticating ur purse is proof of purchase from Louis Vuitton boutiques such as receipt

That is simply not true. You either misunderstood or they misinformed. Either way, with an authentic LV in appropriate condition for repair, they will accept them. Personal experience.

I'm having trouble even understanding what the OP is saying...

But as others have pointed out, LV does not store date codes in their system because they are not unique numbers. Date codes are NOT serial numbers. Receipts can be faked, and LV will repair authentic items at their discretion. If you are a regular customer coming in with an authentic item for repair, it's unlikely they will refuse because of a missing receipt. Now someone who's not in the system with any previous purchases might be asked for a receipt.

Chanel does require receipts, I have not heard of LV moving to this policy.

Date codes were never recorded... and are certainly not a proof of authenticity. I am very confused by your post. Thousands of items are made everyday and share the exact same date code.
