Sigh I’m beyond devastated and disappointed to lose my new rose gold diamond Hermes bracelet while visiting Redding, CA / Mt Shasta area. Fell off my wrist somewhere. I’m mostly angry and disappointed at the loop clasp design (the stick through circle closure thing). I think it’s a horrible design flaw on Hermes to use this kind of clasp for such an expensive piece. A couple times the bracelet would just fall off while I’m sleeping too. Unbelievable.

Has this happened to anyone? I believe anyone who’d find that bracelet would probably keep it… do u think it’s worth checking pawn shops? Or should I just accept that it’s gone gone and learn from experience :(

Oh no! You should definitely check if it is covered under insurance. Make sure to double check that it's not fallen somewhere in your clothing, and perhaps post in a local FB/reddit group for advice, and try to retrace your steps.

If it's not too insensitive, may I ask what piece it was? I am asking because this was a concern that came up both by me and my SA when I was looking at a few bracelets. I believe the 'stick through the loop' clasp can easily come undone if there is bad weight distribution (e.g. light chain, which makes the chain lightweight and more likely to flop around, thereby making the stick part move around- especially if the piece is too loose for your wrist).

I have the same clasp on one of my bracelets (chaos chaine d'ancre) but I have not encountered any problems with that one coming undone so far, possibly because there are so many dangly bits that the weight of them pulls the clasp down. But now knowing that you have lost your bracelet it definitely makes me wary of any further purchases of bracelets with the same mechanism.

I really hope you are able to recover it. In the future I think you could also buy chain extender/link to secure the bracelet. I have been thinking about it but I better try to find one myself now.

Try reading the fine print of the credit card you used to make the purchase. Some credit cards have purchase insurance. Really sad that this happened to you. :(

I’m so sorry to hear that. I hope you are able to recover the bracelet or that it is covered by your insurance. This sort of design failure isn’t unique to Hermès. I have a Tiffany white gold and diamond bangle that was made with such an inadequate closure my jeweler advised me that I should not wear it! In my case we were able to add an additional small, very discreet, clasp to secure the closure and I can now wear it safely. It may sound like sacrilege to modify a piece in this way, but there’s really no alternative IMO if you want to be able to wear and enjoy your pieces.

Not OP but i have the farandole bracelet. I actually got some of the links removed by a jeweler and i feel like the tighter it is, the more secure ( i also prefer bracelets tight bc i hate the feeling of them sliding up and down my wrists). but such a bummer for OP !! :(

I know it may be a long shot, but it may be worth your while to retrace your steps if you have time? A lot of people aren actively looking for jewelry on the ground when they are walking around casually and might not even notice it if they passed by. It may be partially hidden under a leaf that only you might find because you are actively looking for it.

I once went swimming in the ocean when I suddenly lost my ring. Waves were crashing in and I thought for sure that it was long gone. Then I hung around in the area for the waves to quell down a bit and I went back underwater and long and behold, the ring was sitting on a rock winking at me! It didn’t get washed out! So there is always hope!

So I have the Chaine d'Ancre contour pendant with the same clasp mechanism and I wore it out for my holiday party a couple weeks ago. I noticed halfway through the night that the clasp came undone and the pendant was just dangling free (ETA: The clasp side of the pendant actually slipped off from around my neck and was hanging over my shoulder). Luckily the pendant got caught on my purse strap so it never fully fell off my body but I was not thrilled, as it would have slipped off had I not had my purse on me all night. It definitely made me way more wary about wearing it and I imagine with a bracelet it's even harder to notice than a pendant if it were to come undone. I'm so sorry this happened to you ☹️

I can’t find a pic but the clasp and pendant looks almost exactly like this necklace but in bracelet form.

I think I’ll be too scarred to ever consider any jewelry with this kind of clasp ever again! The SA assured me that it wouldn’t fall but I’ve even tried double looping the clasps but that falls off too…
So sorry to hear this happened to you. It sounds like the bracelet was simply too big for your wrist to begin with if it was falling off by itself in bed. The extra length caused too much slack and not enough tension to keep the toggle in place. For future, reference, even lobster clasps, although more secure, can also unlatch accidentally by breaking. Barrell locks are probably the most secure as you screw it in place. Some people also add an extra chain with jump hoops as an added means of security in case the primary clasp does fail. Any jeweler should be able to add that link.

Oh no!!! Thats super unfortunate. Try asking the hotel or restaurants or places you visited to see if someone found it and turned it in?

So sorry to hear this. :crybaby: I truly feel for you. I know I would be crushed. I agree with others who already mentioned insurance, cc loss coverage. If you were traveling and paid with a cc, check that out to see if they cover loss. Also, did you check the car? Sometimes when adjusting seat, moving stuff in trunk or looking for something between seats or side by the door, it may have fallen into a crevice or pocket. If it's a rental and returned the car, call the rental company. I hope you find it or get coverage from cc or insurance.
