Ahh I have never heard of Aspinal of London but I'm also new to the purse world! How is their quality overall?
From what I hear, they are reliable and the quality is consistent. I really like their designs and leathers.

There are threads on the forum about Aspinal. One of them also contains quality talk and links to review videos etc. Luxpurselove has made several videos pn her Aspinal bags, I really like her honest reviews. She's one of the people I actually rely on for reviews.

Mulberry bags are generally really nice, but I think the straps can run a bit short. I have a Cheney bag and have considered the Darley. But it is a inch or two shorter than I want for a crossbody.

Maybe look at Ferragamo. https://www.ferragamo.com/shop/us/en/women/handbags/crossbody-bags/vara-fl-733460

And secondhand a Diorama may do the trick.

Ooh I think this is kind of what I'm going for! Diorama is more like the Boy instead of the 2.55. Ferragamo has some really nice options and I want to look into their quality/customer service post-purchase!

I adore flap bags with sliding chain straps! I have a vintage Chanel jumbo, YSL LouLou, and Gucci Marmont, though I suspect all those would be too branded for your tastes. I also have two Coach Parkers - one has the "C" clasp which again, may be too branded, but the other has a tea rose clasp which I adore for its dainty femininity and also makes it far less branded. All that being said though, I actually thought of Massaccessi as a possibility for you when I read your post.

I just ordered a Massaccessi Astra Satchel with a sliding chain strap instead of a top handle, which makes it a double-chain shoulder/crossbody bag. You can heck out the Massaccessi handbags thread here to learn more. The thread is a good intro to the work of MM in general, but if you search the thread for "Astra", you should be able to find photos of the Astra satchel with a sliding chain strap.

Massaccessi is awesome because you can really customize a bag to suit your needs. Admittedly, it can feel a bit overwhelming at first, but everyone on the Masseccessi thread is happy to help, and customizing a bag to suit your needs is awesome. I mean, I really love my YSL LouLou and Coach Parkers, but I hate the middle zip divider in them. With Massaccessi, you can remove features like this if you want (or add them in if you want). You can choose the leather, lining, hardware color, and you can also ask for certain add ons or remove feature that don't work for you. So, for example, the Astra satchel I ordered is a top handle bag that comes with a messenger strap. I opted to remove those and add a two-way sliding chain strap instead and specified my desired strap drop. I choose to color-block my bag with fuchsia, silver, and black leather. I opted for black lambskin lining, dark gunmetal hardware, and added an exterior slip pocket on the back. I just placed the order so I don't have it yet, but I have other Massaccessi bags, and the quality it top notch. Also, the owner, Marco, is an absolute gem, and he really goes above and beyond to make his customers happy. I think the Astra with a sliding chain strap with be the MM style closest to what you are looking for, although it's not a quilted leather bag, so if your heart is set on quilted leather, it may not be the one for you. But I thought I'd throw it out there as an option!

I've heard so much about Massaccessi and I love the idea of supporting an individual artisan so much <3 Definitely want to look into this more!!

I have 3 Ferragamo bags and quality wise is excellent. Haven’t used the aftercare. Maybe I could take in my bag to get the hardware polished up, but that is the only “issue.” The other two are more light duty. One is special occasion. The other is pretty new.
Leather and stitching are stellar.

Hi all! I absolutely love the classic style of the Chanel 2.55 reissues but the price point is far more than I'm willing to pay for a bag, especially after the price increases. I've also considered buying pre-loved but I'm wary about fakes on the market and I don't really want to pay more than ~3k for a bag anyway.

My favorite things about the bag are the following:
  1. The double chain that can be converted to a crossbody chain
  2. The classic style, especially for the gold hardware + black/neutral/white bag combos
  3. The minimal branding/no logos (it's very if-you-know-you-know)
  4. Good quality

Any recommendations for bags that satisfy the above?

More elaboration: My friend recently got the Gucci Dionysus and while it suits her because she likes visible branding, I think the big tiger-snake and Gucci print all over make it too very obviously branded for my tastes. I like being very low-key about fashion choices.

I was considering the Strathberry East/West or East/West mini but I'm not in love yet:

Looking for more suggestions  Thank you!
Bottega Veneta Olimpia bag. It’s not sold at the BV boutiques anymore but you will find it in their outlets or on different department stores likes Saksoff5th (just google BV Olimpia)

Okay I LOVE this option woww!!! Trying to find it in black/gold hardware now. It's kind of tricky.

Edit: On second thought, I'm reading the reviews and they are saying after some time the corners of the flap start curling up. :( Do you have any experience with this bag?

I own this bag in the beige color. I have the medium size. It’s still relatively new as I bought it a few months ago but I love it! I’m usually careful with my bags so I make sure I don’t pull the sides when I want to open it. It is a magnetic closure and it’s quite strong so I can see how if you pull on the sides with time they can curl up

I realize your asking for less expensive alternatives to the Chanel reissue, but imo no other bag compares. I considered the BV Olympia but somehow it did not seem classic enough and was lacking in the “chic” factor. I also owned a ysl flap bag (forgot the name of the model) but quickly sold it because I didn’t like the big logo and the corners seemed like they would show wear. The leather was nice though. Anyway, if you really want the reissue, I would hunt for one on the preloved market. In my experience, I’m never content when I settle for less than what I truly want. There are deals to be had..usually through eBay and now they authenticate as well. I own two reissues and I would buy more if the price wasn’t so obscene. The reissue is the holy grail bag I never knew I would love so much. There are many classic flap inspired bags, but the reissue is the quintessential Chanel flap bag.

Since Ferragamo has been mentioned, I'll weigh in. I have a Ferragamo Vara Bow Mini Bag, I think they may have *just* stopped making it, I could be wrong, but it's very reasonable on the preloved market. It's an understated flap bag with chain (albeit not a double chain), but perhaps too small for what you're looking for.

I have been totally impressed with Ferragamo's quality (for handbags and shoes). The bag has been very hard-wearing in the grained leather and still looks like new after wearing it day in and out. Just a note regarding after-service if you buy Ferragamo: if you have any issues, ask them to send it directly to Italy for repair, not their local repair spot. I had one very minor thing that needed to be done after about a year of heavy use, but the interior repair would require reglazing one exterior side, and the boutique sent it to their local place for repair. They repaired the interior just fine but a terrible job with the reglazing. I had to sent it there again and it was still bad. Finally they sent it back to the craftsmen in Italy and it came back a new bag, it was amazing. Cleaned, conditioned, reglazed perfectly and even reshaped on the sides. This was all no charge, being within their 2 year after-service window. You have to pay beyond that window.

Actually they still make the Vara Bow mini bag: https://www.ferragamo.com/shop/eu/en/women/handbags/mini-bag-woman/vara-bow-mini-bag-675575--24

And here's a quilted Ferragamo flap with a double chain/four grommets: the quilted Gancini bag. It has a large logo but I still find it understated in the way that it's still a largely unrecognizable logo to the average person and so flies under the radar a bit more.

I have a pebbles leather Sophia, the woven Viva Bow Bag, and a chain bag called Ginerva. It might be a tad too busy for you and it is long discontinued. Mine is pink suede! Here is another shade. https://www.tradesy.com/p/salvatore-ferragamo-ginevra-leather-small-shoulder-bag/5977348/
You might like thr Viva Bow Bag but the chain is color matched and not gold tones - save the woven one I got. The strap is shoulder only. The leather is so soft on this one. You want to give it a hug. :D

vintage marc jacobs - leather is divine, quality is top notch, chain is good quality. quilting is actually their signature style. their icy leathers (2005 only, I think) are like chanel caviar leather except thicker and more hardy.
