Dear Ludmilla, I was thinking the same but.... I am really tall and I am really more male-dressed which means trousers, a blouse and a frock-coat (do you still say that?) so I am a little bis hessitant to ad another male element into my appearance.

Actually this would be me typical outfit except for the shoes:

I saw that you voted for the Mulberry as well, I really like that bag so far. Thank you!

No input as I think you've gotten some great ideas so far. Just wanted to say I love the outfit picture you posted! I wear a formal pant suit almost every day with a tailored sport coat style suit jacket so I totally feel you on the "how to keep it feminine" thing. I have more or less just given up and I carry a Tumi or my Roots messenger bag in tribe leather with matching brown shoes and belt. This is because like you I travel a lot, have a lot to carry and have necessity for certain non-negotiable design features. I can't have a bag that turns into a big black hole so I just go stream lined and business formal all the way hoping my hair and makeup and high heels will keep me feminine enough. Not helpful for you as I know you need something more high end... I'm just chatting. LOL.

I think the Bayswater sounds about right for you!

Dear llechiyong, the MCM Milla... well.... before MCM was shut down, the M stood for "Munich" which is the area I am living in. I had the perfums and the bags from them when I was younger - i.e. in my 20ies. Now after they were reanimated it feels wrong to buy them on several levels. Can't explain properly. I am quite sure that these bags will be the next must have bags to go, but for me that train left long ago...

Valextra makes amazing bags. I'd love to have a closer look at them but am not lucky finding a store in my area. Will have a look at them the next time I'll be in Italy.

Givenchy is the brand my mother carries so I want to step back on that. Prada- I had that on my list but ummmm... I don't know. Might have something to do with the fact that in my area Prada is the brand you have to carry if you want to show others your wealth and that is something I really don't like.. But I'll give it a touch and see!

Thank you for your suggestions, Valextra is on my list under the top 5!

No advice or suggestion but I just want to say that I love Munich! You are so so fortunate to live there. Sehr super!

I know you ruled out LV, but what about the new season LV Kimono or LV Lockme Cabas? They come in non-monogrammed colourways so slightly more subtle.

On a side note, my sister is actually starting a contemporary leather goods line of her own especially made for working women! If you have 3 mins to spare, I am sure she'd really appreciate any feedback you have: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/PXNPX7Y

Done, just for you

Dear all, so this is my list:

1.) Chanel Cerf
2.) Mulberry bayswater
3.) Delvaux
4.) Valextra
5.)Stiebich and Rieth--- am not quite sure about them actually.

I will keep you posted! THANKS to all of you!!
if you haven't purchased your bag yet, check out DELVAUX. for sure it fits all your criteria and they are (imho) in a class all by themselves.

I know I will be in a minority group but I see no point buying a huge bag to carry all those things on a shoulder and killing my back. Should I have a job like this with a lot of travelling I would get a medium size shoulder bag for my valuables ( wallet, cosmetic bag, cell phone , and such) and a carry-on luggage type mini suitcase on wheels for docs, laptop , and books.
Then I would use suitcase during the workweek and drop it off on weekends.
Basically, an office on wheels for the work things( you can buy quite a fancy one) , small add on bag for groceries ( you don't put your groceries with your workpapers, don't you?) and a shoulder bag for the girly things.

I second the Garden Party vote although it doesn't have feet. A bit lighter than the B, very tough. holds an organizer, looks chic but no one knows what it is. The only issue is whether it fits over your shoulder. I do like the Bayswater (although mine doesn't have feet??) but if LV isn't "quality" enough for you because your students carry it, then I'm not sure Mulberry is going to qualify either? The Bays now comes with a longer strap which is useful.
I would never pay Chanel prices for the current quality.
Delvaux makes beautiful bags but which model are you thinking?
Valextra also makes beautiful bags, a little too basic for me but a good choice.

I think Bayswater would suit your needs. There are 2 styles to choose from (older version and new version), and even a new version with a long strap if you ever want to carry it that way. Real workhorse bag in my opinion, oozes quality but is understated with no obvious branding. The bayswater tote would also be a great option as someone suggested.

Dear all,

I gained so much knowledge from all of you so that I am quite sure that you will end my neverending search for a workhorse within a few posts... At least I hope!

I am desperately looking for a workhorse in black. Doesn't have to be leather, logo print shouldn't be, but would be ok if the other specs are met:
1.) it hast to be hughe. First I am 5'9 tall and more the weight-challenged type of person.
2.) It has to have feet
3.) it has to have a stiff buttom
4.) It has to be hughe---- I tend to carry my grocery shoppings, my half household, my books, my Laptop, my tablets (yes, plural) with it. I am teaching, which means that I have to schlepp tons of paper, electronic devices, sweets, drinks, handkerchiefs, ... you know what I mean.
5.) It has to be undestroyable, literally. First I do not baby my bags, second I am using public transport and ... well... it is as it is in Germany and Austria / Italy / Switzerland. (I am crossing borders on a regular basis, means once a week at least). So an under the radar bag would be better I gues than one screaming out "robbery could pay of".
6.) It might cost up to 5k but in this case it has to hold! I saw a few very disturbing videos about the Goyard bags and hell- NO!
7.) It has to be carried over the shoulder
8.) it musn't be too girly girly or too young for my age (42)
9.) I can carry whatever I want, but it should be high quaility. I am teaching at a center of excellence which means that even the youngest carry LV. (which is, in my case a total no go - I never want to carry the same bag as my pupils do).
10.) It has to be black...

So far I always used Longchamp I really liked as they were easy to carry and light, but actually I don't like me carrying Longchamp any more. Additional to that, the LC is a hughe mess if you won't use organizers (something I always plan to do but won't do). And: the edges wear of and develop quite pretty holes after a while of using. So, no Longchamp for me. Then, I hade the Mansur Gavriel bag, which I didn't like at all. It is sitting in my cupboard. Then I gad a few totes from Ralph Lauren that didn't hold well. The best workhorse I have is my Birkin (40 cm) but is is HUGHE and believe me it is that as heavy I tend to let it at home most of the times. My herbag becomes dirty very easily and has neither feet nor a stiff buttom and is really hard to get in, so I use it not very often.

I'd love to have a bag I could pass on to my daughter and that has a more classic look, so, pleasssse help me. I have literally no clue.

Thank you I know that you are the persons who will be able to help me!

A few more ideas....

-Fount tote
