Longchamp- made in China??

I know exactly what you mean, if you want a made in China bag you can get one at TopShop or H&M, if you buy a premium bag you have different expectations, I have two Mulberry's that are made in Turkey and have had issues with the quality of both, since then I always check the 'made in' label.

Having said that my Le Pliage is made in China too and is definitely genuine, I needed this style for upcoming travel plans and it was the best option for a light but large bag.

I agree! Especially about the Mulberry (I know, off-topic), I have 2 Mulberry bags 'made in Turkey' and the inking on both handles are very 'sticky' and left black marks on my clothing:sad:

On the other hand, my Mulberry bag that was 'made in England' has never given me any problems.

Okay, back to topic of Longchamp bags.

I've mentioned this in another thread before, but there is definitely a big difference between the China and France made ones. The first Longchamp I ever bought was a China one because I didn't know to look at the tag. My other two are made in France.

The France ones have MUCH thicker nylon and the inside lining feels very nice. China ones have thinner nylon and the inside lining has a rubbery feeling to it. Kinda hard to describe, but when you feel it you will know what I'm talking about.

I now will only buy France ones and it's not because I just prefer one country to the other. Let me clarify that both are made very well and seem to last...my China one has been a fabulous bag. I just prefer the feeling of a thick nylon as opposed to thin and I'd rather have a lining that doesn't feel like rubber.

StarBrite, yes I know what you mean. My Made in China Pliage does feel rubbery inside! I feel like returning it but I have a feeling the store won't return it because I want one made in France. Oh well, I guess I should have checked the label inside before I bought it.

I'm sure you don't need a reason to return it, do you? Just take it back and say you changed your mind (or found something else that was more suitable).

Have you worn it yet? If not, then definitely go and exchange. Most stores that sell Longchamp will have both China and France ones mixed in together. Just feel for a thicker nylon and 9 out of 10x it will be a France one when you check the tag :D

Good luck!

I just bought a 'made in France' Longchamp Le Pliage from the Saks Fifth Off 5th outlet---this particular Longchamp has thinner nylon and rubbery lining in comparison to my other 'made in France' Longchamp bags. :-s

I was so uncertain of its authencity that I even had it authenticated here on TPF. Yep, it's the real thing but maybe the 'made in France' label is no longer an assurance of quality. It doesn't have the 'thicker nylon' like my previous Le Pliage bags.

I called the store where I purchased the bag and explained my "problem". The SA told me that 99% of the bags they receive from Longchamp are made in China so I probably wouldn't find a made in France bag even if I wanted to exchange it.

I guess with the popularity of the bags, they've had to mass produce them and with that comes the lower costs of producing in China, resulting in a less "authentic" bag if you ask me. Because if the quality is not going to be the same, they can't convince me that it's the same bag whether it's made in France or China.

Just wanted to chime in - I bought my first Longchamp yesterday and they told me the production is split so that about 95% is now made in China. BUT, I was able to find a Le Pilage, large w. long handles in Grape made in France. I had to unfold about four of them and check the tag before I found it. Yes, it probably looked crazy but if I'm going to spend so much on a French label, I want it to be made in France!

I totally understand how you guys feel for "made in china" stuff. But, China has became the "World Factory" for almost everything, even for designers items. Practically, they might be the same as is, but, psychologically, you don't feel good.

Most of all, almost every fake handbag/purse are "made in china". It's too bad that well-known high-end brands had changed their production lines to China. What can we say? So, I've planned to buy Premier Designer handbags, which are made in their origin countries, eventhough I have to pay more. Do you guys agree?

MakMaria, you are right. I have heard that a lot of the real designer bags are actually made in the same factories as the face ones now. If they're all made in China, you have to wonder what the real difference is.

I have a longchamp purse and also bought a Brahmin. The sales lady was such an avid fan of Brahmin. Within 3 months of using the Brahmin it started to wear, and I mean the finish of the leather was coming off. The other sales lady told me that the company had an excellent quality until they started having their bags made in China. The department store sent it back and Brahmin called me and said it was normal wear. I questioned that as I had not had the purse for very long. They have finally agreed to refinish the purse free. I will never buy a Brahmin again. My Longchamp wears like a dream.
