Hi all! I’ve just landed a new job and will be transitioning to working in a office for the first time ever. I want to get a pair of Gucci loafers to use as my everyday work shoes, but I’m curious about the comfort level. My office is about 30 minutes away and I’m planning to walk to and from work...will I regret loafers? Thanks in advance for any advice!

I don’t have Gucci loafers (although I have several pairs of Gucci shoes). However, with that much walking I would suggest sneakers and bring your work shoes with you. Why wear down a pair of expensive, designer shoes?

I have a pair of the Brixton loafers and the Princetown mules. Both are comfortable for walking, but not that comfy at first. You need to wear it a few times to make the leather more relaxed.
But if you afraid of wearing it down as @snibor said, as it's quite pricey.. I will suggest Zara loafers for everyday use. It looks similar to the brixton, and it's leather also with a fraction of the price.
Good luck in your new office

I’m not concerned about normal signs of wear; especially with shoes you can’t expect them to stay pristine forever. Is it unrealistic to expect them to hold up reasonably well for some time, though? I don’t want to drop cash on them if they’ll fall to bits from (for me) normal wear.

Not unreasonable but a 30 minute walk to and then from work 5 days a week plus wearing them all day it’s just not something I would do. I’d wear s good pear of sneakers for the walk and save the Gucci for office or other times. Good luck deciding.

I did 8000+ steps yesterday in my Gucci loafers. Walk on them to work all the time, they are very confortable.

Two things: Brixtons are more comfortable than Jordaans because the leather (lambskin) is softer and the different construction. To me there is quite a difference. Also, feet seem to breath better in them (and you can always turn them into slippers), which is a big factor in Summer. Jordaans look sharper though, which is a better look for work.

And in terms of wear, you'd want to put rubber soles before the leather wears too much. If you plan to wear them daily I would get two pairs, as shoes need to rest. Take them periodically to a good cobbler for a clean and a shine and they will last very long.

I suggest getting a great pair of walking sneakers and change into your Gucci loafers. Purchase a lovely Gucci tote bag to transport your Gucci loafers in. lol

I think they're built for comfort but originally as indoor shoes. I've had mine years, Jordaans and 1953s, honestly they're hardy.I put a rubber sole on because the floors at work are lethal.

DH has one black pair from... OMG more than 10 years and just gets them resoled, they are his absolute favourite..

If you actively walk on the street 60 minutes / day, these loafers will be ruined in no time. The advice to use sneakers for the commute and enjoy your shoes at work was an excellent one!

My husband rotates his shoes, but he wore his Gucci loafers regularly when he worked in NYC. He walked a lot street level and in subway tunnels—often 2-3+ miles just for commute. He has had one pair of lug soles for 13 years and just recently replaced the soles for the 1st time. His leather soles do need replaced more often, and he did switch 1 pair to a slimline rubber half sole on recommendation of his cobbler. He does not wear his Louboutins if he is walking much:)

I do not wear my Gucci loafers that often, but I do find them comfortable for all day wear.

Thank you for all the advice, everyone! I honestly know that I am 100% too lazy to do the shoe-switch; I’d just end up never wearing them if that was my plan  I think what I’ll do is go ahead and get a pair and a) see about getting rubber soles put on and b) shop around for another pair of work shoes so I can switch them out and let them rest.

Gucci loafers are comfy enough to walk in for 30 minutes each way. As for wear and tear, they hold up pretty well and they can be resoled. I would recommend rotating 2-3 shoes in general to allow the leather to rest and breathe.

Brixton all the way. They are my most comfortable shoes I own.
I love them for travel especially and have no problem walking around in a city in them all day. I rubber sole all my shoes because I am slip-prone.
