A lot of late 19th-early 20th C. cheaper jewelry was often rolled gold or 12kgf (12 karat gold-filled). I have some, but, then again, I rarely wear my antique jewelry--and have no idea how much the original owner(s) did, so I can't vouch for the durabilty--but you do often see tiny areas of the base metal wearing through. Personally, I'd avoid buying anything pricey that is made from these materials.

Rolled gold - the application process is rolling, but by weight, the piece will be 2/3rds silver.

Gold vemeil (the other style of gold sweetie) - gold plating that is 3 microns thick.

Hope that helps !
