Great thread!

My mom isn't all that into bags. She uses the same one every day and only changes it if she's going to a nice dinner where a smaller, fancier bag is called for. She does use a designer bag because I was showing her mine (I have the same one- MbMJ Natasha in nylon) and she liked that it was easy to clean and secure. She likes nice leather, and always squishes and smells my new bags, she's just not "into" them the same way all of us are. She thinks I have too many purses, but she does like to feel them and she likes most of them. She doesn't ask prices often, I think she doesn't want to know, haha.

My aunt, my mom's sister, on the other hand- totally purse obsessed, she must have over a hundred. She gave me my first Louis Vuitton bag. I must have gotten it from her :smile1:

Thanks! I'm an only child, so I often wonder how my siblings would be if I had some. My mom does like touching my bags now and inspecting them. Lol. It's like she thinks they must be made of gold for these prices. :)

My mother died long ago.

She didn't collect handbags.

She carried 1 bag until it fell apart, then bought another--had to be real leather & black, but brand didn't matter. On sale was a giddy bonus.

If she could see my chanel or mulberry bags, she'd want to hold them & feel the leather.

Work the clasps & inspect inner pockets. She'd say they were very nice.

Then, would mention how a sturdy set of cookware was a more wise use of money. Or buying an antique clock, possibly end tables.

There would be concerned head-shaking.

But, underneath, there would be motherly pride & slight envy.

Then, I'd spill something & ruin the moment.

Oh I don't think that you would ruin the moment. Our moms love us despite head-shaking and not bought sturdy sets of cookware.
Hehehe. The cool thing about my mom is: I inherited her love for handbags AND her clumsiness. [emoji4]

My older sister wasn't into handbags at all. But learned a lot from me. I think she now owns more bags than myself. [emoji1]

This is so interesting to read!

My mom loves bags too, though she refuses to pay full price for anything. She's into brands such as Coach, Hermes, Dooney, Burberry, Longchamp and occasionally Gucci (Things that are understated, no logos whatsoever). I love Burberry, LC and Hermes just like her, but I also do like designs that are edgier like 3.1 Phillip Lim, AW, RM, etc. I have to say that my collection is a bit larger than hers, mainly because she'll only purchase something if it's massively reduced and is very indescisive with her spending habits! (I am the same, at least with my bargain-hunting habits! :P)

Thanks! Haha. My mom loves getting discounts on stuff. She refuses to pay full price and loves bargain hunting! :)

My mother thinks it's hilarious that I have such an obsession for Louis Vuitton as I've always been very thrifty. My handbags are really the only thing I spend a lot of money on!

She sounds wonderful

With handbags as with every other aspect of our lives, my mom and I are complete opposites. I like Chanel, Prada, Dior, Gucci...my mom will carry a clearance pleather bag from WalMart. 😖

She doesn't care about quality. As long as it will hold her stuff, it really could be a plastic grocery bag and I don't think she'd care.

She doesn't care about fashion. I do.

She doesn't care about brands. I like certain brands for reliability of types of styles I like, quality and "it" factor.

The only thing we have in common is our own versions of thrift. We both abhor debt and love a deal. I shop for sales and often buy new / like new resale. My mom simplifies... she just won't spend any money. LOL!

My mom used to be like that until she found Coach. Lol

I tried that. My mom's favorite color is rose pink. Several years ago, I bought her a pretty Coach satchel in rose pink with a pink Coach scarf. She never wore it because she felt it was "too nice". Isn't life about enjoying nice things - especially heartfelt gifts?

I dunno. The lady just doesn't like a good handbag. I must be adopted.

Haha. My mom was like that too, but I just kept buying her stuff. For her birthday, I bought her a pair of Gucci sunglasses. She tried to say they were too nice, and she didn't want to ruin them. Just the other day, she sent me a pic saying how much she loves them. Persistence is key. Sometimes, I also think I'm adopted. :)

One time my mother and I were shopping at Nordstrom rack and she saw a purse she liked but said it wasn't worth the $11. I looked at the tag and showed her it was actually $111. We had a real laugh over that.

My mom doesn't love bags but she encourages me and my bags. She loves art work so she gets why I love bags. She does use coach bags and some Rebecca minkoffs that were gifts from me. She also has a Marc by Marc Jacobs that I gave her.

Lol. That sounds just like my mom (minus the art passion). All the creative genes went to me. :)
