So I finally caved and brought a le pilage neo nylon bag. Large longhandle bag in Navy. I am not a tote person, only uses them when I need a large bag, so I wanted something practical and durable to replace my 10 years old unbranded tote that is falling apart.
While I thought the bag was fine when I tried it empty in the store. The moment I fill it with anything (literally less than 1/4 full and not with heavy items), the should straps start falling off or sit on shoulder uncomfortably.
The reviews I checked seems to suggest le pilage being really comfortable, which is why I brought it. I read from another post that the leather handle need to be soften, does anyone have any suggestion on how to do that fast? I don't tend to use bags I find uncomfortable and I am finding myself going back to my old tote with a thicker strap, which is such a shame as I want to like this bah. Since I removed the label, I can't refund or exchange it. Before I give up on the bag, any advice would be much appreciated.

If anyone else also found le pilage uncomfortable. What tote bag would you recommend instead? I don't want to spend too much as I don't use large bag very often. I heard you can use the le pilage neo short handle bag that come with a shoulder strap as shoulder bag, but not sure if I want another try at le pilage just yet. Also while I thought the thick strap came with neo was more comfortable on the shoulder, I found the strap too short as crossbody for me. Hence why I chosen the long handle one in the end, but so far this turns out to be a mistake, since I could always have switched out the strap on the short handle one for a longer strap.

I have a long-handle Le Pliage Shoulder Bag L in bilberry with brown cowhide trim and the handles have only gotten better with age—they're so comfy! The saffiano leather on your bag may be stiffer than the cowhide, which would make carrying the bag more uncomfortable. If you can, try a Le Pliage with cowhide trim to test if it feels differently/more comfortable.

That said, the next most comfortable tote I've owned for years is the Kate Spade Lita Street Scallop Andrea in nouveau neutral and lilac cream. The tote is lined in a soft cloth and the leather is soft, so the wide handles are comfortable even when I fill it full to the brim.

Hope you find a comfy tote!

Thank you for the help. I didn't know there are different leather trim for le pilage. I should have done more research. The Kate Spade looks very comfy, I think I am too used to "flat" straps, the "rolled" straps on le pilage doesn't work for me. Though fingers crossed it will get better with age. Just hoping I can spend up that process.

Hope everything turns out okay! Definitely post a follow-up review of the tote if it ends up being a keeper—I'm curious how the saffiano leather handles wear with time.

i Am in the same boat as you. I bought the neo L long handle to use as a carry on for the plane and it hurt my shoulder all the way there and back. The outer handle also drops off as soon as I put stuff in it. I thought it might be different with the original LPG but nope...it was still the same. I eventually Gave up. So sorry you have the same issues as me. I’m also baffled how others find it comfy.
this Roseau tote is on sale right now and it’s really comfy. I have three and use them all the time! There’s a smaller one too.

the description on both bags say they have cowhide trimming. saffiano leather is just a name, it’s also cowhide with a special stamping machine to make the cross hatch design. I do not see Longchamp using saffiano word anywhere in their descriptions. I’m confused as both the neo and original handles feel the same to me. :confused1:

Glad to hear I am not the only one. The Roseau tote seems to changed design, at least the one being sold in Europe. The one you linked seems to have a flat handle, which I think is what I will need in the future for a tote.

They are both cow leather, altho the processing makes it feel completely different to me. What I was trying to say saffiano starts out stiffer than the reg cowhide and doesn't soften as much over time as the non-saffiano cowhide. This is true for all handbags I own. That makes all the difference for me.

Yes I understand you. thats how I feel about Prada saffiano bags, they’re stiffer than daino And other leather range they have. Does LC use saffiano leather at all? If so, which bags?

The leather details on OP's bag seemed waxed and crosshatched in a saffiano print, so I used saffiano as a shorthand. Saffiano print can be done to any leather. The treatment definitely makes leather more hardwearing but stiffer and less likely to soften over time. I'm unsure about leather treatment on Longchamp's other lines. Kate Spade loves using the saffiano style for a lot of their lines too.

Hi! I had the exact same issue. I heard it was super comfy, but not for me! After I put stuff in my Le Pliage, the strap just dug into my shoulder. I got rid of it (too late to return).

I then researched more and purchased the Le Pliage Neo with the short strap and removable should strap. I love love love it! I purchased the small first, but then loved it so much I purchased the medium. The medium is perfect as I can stuff my laptop and other items. If I don't need to fill it up, the bag is so soft, and it sort of scrunches.

I would highly recommend the Le Pliage Neo. A big plus is the new bags have two inner pockets. My bag is the old style with only one inner pocket. I am so tempted to get a new one just to have two inner pockets. Oh, and the new version has adjustable should straps. My old version is ont adjustable. Here is the size medium. I love this size.

Thank you I was debating between the lh and sh neo. In hindsight the sh might have been the better choice. Didn't know they had two pockets now, I think mine only have one.

I have a Neo tote and a regular Le Pliage tote and agree that the strap leathers make a difference. My Le Pliage one definitely broke in much faster and is softer. But I never found the Neo straps uncomfortable either... it balances well for me but I put in a DIY base at the bottom (I cut out from a cardboard box or felt sheet) so IDK if that might help.
