Large D'Amour Necklace vs VCA Sweet Alhambra?

I’m a new account so I can’t post but it would have been similar to yours so I’m commenting here, I’m not sure how else I can work around this since I can’t wait 5 days🥲

I’m looking at the vintage Alhambra onyx vs Cartier d’Amour large for my sisters 30th bday gift. I’m well and truly put off of MoP because of the lack of practicality of it otherwise it would’ve been that one instead of onyx. The VCA I truly prefer our of all Alhambra options is out of budget. Anyway she may wear very often or maybe just on occasions, but I want it to last long enough that even if she stops wearing it one day she’ll look back at it as a milestone birthday gift😩 I’ve had many opinions saying she could easily get a larger diamond pendent on a chain for less that’s not branded and give off the same vibe but I just don’t know!! Mainly looked at these for how investable they are. Providing she doesn’t lose it, if she passes it down to her kids after she’s gone and they don’t want it, it’ll likely still have *some* value… brother wanted to go designer brand route rather than gifting a non-branded gold piece so 🤷‍♀️ so yeah not sure what to do:/

I would say this depends entirely on her personality and habits. I have both necklaces, although my d’amour is the smaller size. Here are pros and cons of each:

Can wear 24/7 and never take it off.
Can shower and swim in it

Easily stackable
Can wear alone

VCA
Can wear 24/7, but should remove before showering and swimming
Versatile
Has a definitive presence
Looks great alone
Can stack
Stone is replaceable for small fee (around $250).

Thank you for the reply! We’re so torn about which one to get her so we’re going to buy one of them so that she has something to open (my brother doesn’t want to take her shopping to decide first bc she won’t commit otherwise) and then she can decide herself what’s more important to her. If she sticks, it’s no problem, if she wants to change it they do returns. Another thing was we ruled out mother of pearl VCA because of how prone to damage it is. Especially since we want it to last decades (she won’t wear it daily but she’d wear it often enough). So if she decides she would prefer the VCA, at least she’s made that decision herself and we can sort that out for her. I’d hate to get her something high maintenance for her to then not wear it at all out of worry. Anyway thanks again for the help! Much appreciated x
