I guess it's hard to decide as FI grading can be so different, perhaps you want to return and wait for another piece that really has the shade you love? I do not know how true this is, but my Tiffany SA tells me the truly intense yellows are set in platinum as they do not need any additional "help"with the colour. I only have a small pendant from Tiffany ( radiant cut, with a smaller Lucida diamond set in plat) as yellows are not my first love and I took a while to wait for the right shade to appear. I did try this pear shaped piece as well and I love the setting!
that's what I was thinking exactly. I tried on some double halo yellow diamond rings at Tiffany and they look so much more yellow to me, maybe the double halo white diamond did the trick.I think it blends too much with your yellow tone and it doesn't stand out. Also i think YG doesn't help the diamond either as it kind of make it look wash out iykwim.
No loose diamond to choose from. it's actually hard to even get one to look at in Tiffany. the stores I visited, most don't even have this in stock. I have only seen a couple in person. what you said does make sense. when I look it from the back of the diamond, it is even more white. maybe the yellow diamond just look wash out on me, only the true vivid yellow will stand out.Did you select this stone loose before it was set or was this stone already set in this mounting when you selected it? Most yellows are deliberately set in yellow gold, and still keep their intensity, and in many cases look much more vivid and intense, in this case, it's the open back that I think is doing this stone a disservice, as most are "cupped" to make the yellow more intense. I don't think your skintone is the issue. It could be a stone with a secondary color or perhaps for you this is not a good setting choice. Maybe you need a deeper stone or a Vivid or this to just not be in an open backed setting?
Hey! It looks gorgeous to me! I think it's really beautiful. I have a fancy vivid (I was looking for fancy intense actually as I hate when it veers anywhere near orangey, but mine was a lighter vivid and like pure sunshine!) and love it, but I loved fancy intense in this yellow gold setting too. The colour actually looks exactly like what I'd think fancy intense (the middle grade in colour) would look like. I've seen some wishy washy ones but this is not one of them. BUT - If you want it more saturated you should exchange it for sure! In this size they should have lots to choose from. You should be happy with it and they could probably find you one!
Interestingly I think the yellow gold around it enhances the yellow diamond and reflects back to it/into it, rather than washes it out - I find the soleste double row of diamonds (which I LOVE) has more of that effect and you need a stronger colour to stand out in that setting than this.
As for the size... I think it looks really big! It looks as big as your ring to me (just differently shaped). I have a .91 and I think a round in the same size would look much bigger than my pear. It's really hard to compare different shapes ... plus it could be a deeper set pear with less spread. I think with fancy shapes (they told me) there are less specifications for what is considered "ideal." At the time I chose mine (sorry I don't have it on me on vacay or I'd take a pic for you!) they laid out about 8 different pears and I was amazed at the different shapes! Some more rain drop, some thinner, some fatter... I think they cut more to the beauty of that stone than to exacting standards in fancy shapes.
I did ask for a diamond report and they were going to send it from NY - I'm not sure now that I think of it if they did or not?? I'm not sure if a .50 stone would have one but pretty sure it would if you asked. That is pretty big.
thanks NY village girl. I appreciate your input. I am going to ponder on this a little more.It is a beautiful piece, but I do think it looks a little washed out as the yellow diamond and yellow gold does blend in with your skin tone. I would go with your gut. If you are not completely happy with it, I would return it and get something else on your jewelry list.
