I recently sold some items and by doing so, I now have some money to buy some lower ticket jewelry pieces. I was going to save up for the Cartier Love wedding band in yellow gold (US $950) but I’m not sure if I have the patience. How do you keep yourself motivated to not spend when you are saving up for a bigger ticket jewelry item? I absolutely love the new Paloma Picasso olive leaf collection and can easily pick up a piece or two (in SS) from it right now, so this is hard for me. I also really want the Elsa Peretti bean necklace in black jade (which I would wear all the time – practically live in black clothing). If you’ve been in this situation, what happened? Did you stick to your jewelry goal or did you give in and buy other things in place of it?

I keep myself motivated by remembering that lesser priced items then the one i'm saving for may curb my desire for new jewellery in the short term. But long term I will still want the original item!

i'm slowly learning patience and to save for my ideal items rather then settling for less.

I would normally go through my currently collection and remind myself of just how many smaller pieces I have and don't wear. That normally does the trick quickly.

Plus there's a sweeter anticipatory feeling when you finally get the item you DO want, as opposed to a quick hit of happiness when you get something immediately, iykwim

I understand your frustration...

I do use several tricks myself to save as fast as possible:
- while I'm saving money for an expensive item I keep telling myself that "cheap" stuff is not worth it and will only delay my getting what I really want.
- when I feel that I deserve to get a little something I wait for 1-2 months before I get it...by the time the 2 months are over I usually don't want it that much anymore and I end up not buying it.
- I also like to set a future date of purchase even if it's in 1-2 years. It keeps me motivated like "today brings one day closer to getting my next XYZ".

Are you actively saving - in other words, do you have money going into a dedicated account every week or two weeks or month? Even if it is only $5 or $10 at a time, if you have direct deposit working for you and know that account is growing every day you don't spend it can help. Additionally, when you know you have $X going into an account every X amount of time, you can positively know when you will have the money to purchase your most desired item. If you sell things or get additional money in the meantime? That just brings the date closer or gives you money toward something else.

IMO, it is always better to wait for what you truly want and not nickel and dime yourself in the meantime. If you still want the SS pieces after you have the ring, then go ahead, but don't sabotage yourself from what you really want before you have it.

For me to stay motivated I always tell myself if I get the one that I really want I will be fully satisfied and won't regret it after that. Unlike a few pieces which I bought on impluse I have buyer remorse and keep on saying if only I stopped myself I could have gotten XYZ a lot sooner. Just stay focus and other 'wants' are just distractions that will keep you away from your wishlist.

I'm struggling with right now. There is (for me) a big ticket item I want, but for that same amount I could easily fund many many other beautiful pieces. The other thing is that I really don't need it. I've been very happy without it until this year, but it occupies too many minutes of my day now. Lol

I know exactly what you feel. I keep on saying oohh with this amount of money I could get a few pieces instead of just one piece. In the end I got the other pieces and regret it now because I dont wear it often and its sitting in my closet. I recently got the one that I've been wanting for a long time and I wore it everyday ever since and everytime I look at it I feel happy and satisfied. Stay strong and may you get the thing that you want!

I sooooo agree with this. It's all so easy to see something, get distracted by it and buy it and wham there's your money gone that was there to be put towards your goal purchase :smile1:

I agree - saving for a major piece of jewellery is so worth it! If you go off course and buy something smaller now - it isn't going to take away your desire for the major piece. It is only going to take you that much longer to get it.
I am 2 months away from getting a VCA piece I have been saving for (just hoping there isn't a major price increase before then). It's hard - but you'll be glad you stayed strong!!
Keep looking at the big picture.

So weird, I'm currently saving up for the exact same item! :p (as well as a few other items, plan to go a bit nuts when I visit the US in May :graucho:). There are a few things I've seen while saving but none that I like as much as the YG wedding band. Know this sounds a bit random but do you have Instagram? I keep searching for the hashtag CartierLove and looking at all the photos to stay motivated :smile1: you could try doing that everytime you think about buying something else! Kylie Jenner posts loads of photos with hers that never fail to keep me on track!
Good luck and can't wait to see your reveal :p :D

Edit: The DBTY is actually my bracelet, I just want to see how it will look like as a ring.
