kids and luxury handbags

My first designer bag that I really wanted was when I was in high school in the late 90’s - everyone had one of those Polo Sport purses [emoji23]. I was raised by a single mom and I remember her telling me if I wanted it I had to save up for it as I was saving up for my car. (I wish I still had that bag, I never left the house without it once I got it!)
When in college came my Coach phase which were harder to save up for. And I became savvy with eBay to sell my handbags I got tired of to afford new ones.
Now I’m a high school teacher and I work in a very wealthy school district and my students come in with a different Supreme shirt everyday, LV and Chanel shoes, etc. And where they get Porsche’s for their high school graduations. Amazing seeing the difference from how I grew up.
I feel extremely blessed that today I have an established Chanel collection.

I don’t have a problem with kids and luxury handbags, but when it reaches the point of the kid at 10:05 there’s a serious issue.

I don’t know if anyone noticed but the older child had an Hermes shopping bag in hand. These kids are probably used to getting luxury items so that “pencil case” was just another expensive “toy” that Mommy and Daddy got them used to.
I remember the one time I decided to throw a tantrum as a child, my mom legit walked away from me at the mall to teach me a lesson. lmao...I got so scared I started running after her saying I’m sorry!

Yeah, I noticed that too. Also they seemed to be egging her on so they could take the video. I bet they bought it for her after they felt they had enough video footage. [emoji53]

I forget the time mark but the father gives in and says to get it around a minute in. I found it fascinating that the mother argued that the older children get everything they want and “the little one” doesn’t get anything. Also how the mother offers the girl a bag from her closet but that’s not enough. Plus she had a Chanel shopping bag—what was in the bag? The video really needs a second watch because I was so distracted by the girl’s tantrum I didn’t pay attention first to what everyone around her was really saying.

The whole video was fascinating to me and that the brother (?) filming it apparently got permission from his parents to post it. Or maybe he just did it anyway as I can’t find the story behind the video. Still, they all think this is hilarious.

I’m also amused they think that’s a pencil case??? Do they not use pencils or do the pencils they use measure around 10 inches long or something?

During the last couple of months I’ve been visiting few Chanel stores with my daughter accompany me. She is 3yo and 3 times at 3 different stores has she been given the small Chanel paperbag with the ribbon and camelia just like that little girl has in her hand. Actually my daughter now has 7 chanel camelias directly gave to her by few SAs. They always said they couldn’t help because she’s so cute. But seeing that video and all the chat here I’m a bit cautious now. I know I’m not rich enough to buy my daughter branded stuff at early age even if I want to so I will however find a way to control it rather than to agree if she ever ask for one. But will she get addicted to the chanel paperbag little thing and camelia and next wanting more or do you guys think it’s harmless? I honestly never thought of it until now, I even thought those were a very nice gesture of the SAs, which I believe they were

Yikes! Honestly, I surely hope they bought it considering how the daughter manhandled it. I know I wouldn’t want to go in later and spend all that money on an o case that had been crumpled and smashed like that. It might be a cheap little item to some people but for others over $1k is a lot. I’m surprised no SAs stepped in. Or maybe they did off camera.

This family obviously has the means to provide their kids with whatever they want and the price of that o case for them is probably nothing. I don’t care how other people spend their money but I do think it’s important to teach them the value of things so they don’t treat luxury items like dollar store finds. This child can barely form complete sentences so I’d imagine that she’s far too young to understand the value of Chanel and how much it really costs.

Side note... I actually wanted that o case and regret not getting it.

I think it's harmless, but would she notice and get upset if she went to a boutique and the SA didn't give her a bag and flower?

The o case is gorgeous!

I actually thought no SA stepped in because the family are clearly big spenders and didn’t want to upset them.

Nouveau Riche behavior. I used to work at Bergdorf Goodman in NYC and you can spot right away who's old money and who's newly rich. The latter of the two tend to be on the flashy and tacky side.

Thank you, I think the same way too. But I’d like to know if somebody has different perspective, I’d like to hear.

In the last store we went, we were on the rush because it’s almost closing time and she didn’t have a chance to get acquintance with the SA (yes, she is super friendly little monster). She didn’t get anything but she didn’t get upset (thankfully, lol)

Well... IMO it shouldn't matter if it's Chanel or the dollar store. A child ought not to be demanding or disrespectful. Mistreating anything which doesn't belong to oneself is disrespectful. Your daughter hoping for an act of kindness is worlds apart from the behavior this child exhibited.
Apparently, temper tantrums are her MO of control or she wouldn't bother. Being so passive, her parents are giving her too much power; they've lost their authority.

I think the parents were enjoying the attention.
