I keep looking for a new handbag and I keep looking at bags where I am sure, they will never work in my everyday life:
Whenever I leave the house I grab my MCM Klara Hobo because I know whatever will happen it will fit in my bag, whether it is a bottle of water, groceries, a book, small shopping. So I know I love this bag. Before that I had another hobo.

But: Out and about I see lots of women wearing small crossbody bags for instance from Saint Laurent and it looks soo elegant! Also I would like a flashy logo... (I know... but still...)
Since I really would like a new bag I keep looking at the saint Laurent envelope in black with black HW or the LV mylockme crossbody in black or the MCM Mezzanine but I can't pull the trigger because I am not convinced I will wear it.
Does anyone else have this (somehow crazy - I know) problem?

Also: I own only three bags - the Hobo, one Workbag and a micro crossbody... so I am not very experienced in handbag buying :-)

Everyone is different. If you know it won’t work do not buy it just because it’s “pretty” or you’ll just have a pretty bag sitting on a shelf somewhere at home.

It took a while but I’ve learned what I do & do not like/use. I use my smaller bags a ton - evening & weekends. Pretty much all the time outside of work. Do you still use a big bag nights & weekends? Or could this be when you use your new bag?

It happens to me as well I’ve been eyeing wallets on a chain but I doubt how much I’d really use them. I don’t carry much in my bags but my small problem would be my sunglasses that carry with me no matter what and I feel like they would never on a chain Wallet.

It took me a long time and a lot of money wasted before I finally found out what bags I should buy (as in buying bags for the actual life I live, not the life I think or dream of living). I own small and also massive bags and I use them all for different purposes - I wish I could do with just 3 bags!
If I go out with a smaller bag and I think I might get into shopping etc, I always carry a foldable bag so I can whip it out when needed. F.e. Ticket to the Moon has some great ones made of parachute silk.

One thing I've learned is when I'm not sure if I like the style of a particular bag I either borrow a bag from my mom or a friend to try out or buy one super cheap so that I don't lose a lot of money if the style isn't something I enjoy carrying. At the moment I'm thinking about selling my MbMJ Percy and getting a camera bag so I have to hunt down one to try out.

Coincidentally enough, I just this minute came back from the post office - I sent seven bags that didn't work for me as a gift to an unsuspecting friend. While I'm looking forward to her surprise and happiness at getting them, I also wish I had put a little more thought into whether or not I'd actually use what I was buying. Live and learn.

This is what I am aiming for. I think this is a better motto than 'dress for the job you want'. Nice things you do not use in the closet always create a feeling of 'being not enough'. Also I don't have a lot of closet space and don't want to crowd it too much.

Actually I seldom use bags when I go out with my boyfriend because I enjoy having nothing to carry.
I think the idea of trying it with a cheaper bag and then going for the big step is a good idea. And also a folding bag is a very useful idea. I will try that too.
In my head there is this Ali McGrawish picture of using a small crossbody and strolling through autumn leaves *crazy

My rule is this: if I can't fit my Filofax planner(pocket-sized black Malden if they are any Filo fans here) in it, it ain't for me. Exception is if I am wanting an evening or a small crossbody for a double bag situation. My last job required a lot of crao to go accompany me on a daily basis, so I used a backpack and a crossbody. The CB of course carrying the bare essentials while my planner having a dedicated pocket right in the front of backpack.

I always admire the clutch bag but I know that the absence of a shoulder chain, and having to hand-carry the bag all evening would just annoy me so I continue to admire them from afar. If you are not absolutely sure you are going to use something, don't be in a hurry to purchase it. Just wait and give it some time. If the urge to get the bag does not go away, and you are still thinking about it after a while, you can consider your purchase options at that time.

That’s what my mom always says about anything you buy when it comes to fashion. See it and the then leave the store and if in two days you still want that item get it.
She always tells me to not rush into anything to buy and I think she is right unless it’s something with a great price and it’s on a great sale.

She always tells me to buy something I really love or I really need.

This is a great way to get rid of the things that don't work for you. I think it is also a shame if you have al these things and don't use them.

Completely different in my family: all the women are emotional buyers, they buy things in a rushing way and always spend too much money. I am the exception and keep to overthink my purchases. That's why I spend very little money on clothing and accessoires and would like to be a little more genereous with myself.

My mom used to be that way but lately she has been more relaxed and is more into buying what you really love and or need. And I think it’s healthy. You feel more in love with you buy.
That I make sure I really use what I get and not keep it in the closet

So I did it. I orderd 4 (!) cheap bags online that look similar to the ones I am eyeing. And while at it I also bought a Molly Office Bag by Kate Spade (but I really needed it!). Let's see how the small bag concept works for me :-)

I totally have been there but think part of that is marketing, including influencers. If advertisements made us appreciate what we have instead of wanting something new, companies wouldn’t make money. I totally am a big bag lady, especially since I have a little one and carry a water bottle all the time. My compromise is putting my Chanel mini inside my big bag so if I ever need to run out without needing all the other things, I can just grab and go.
