I posted this last year and just had the ring stabilized enough to hold the stone. There is a long backstory, but this is an unheated Burmese sapphire I inherited. The ring is very old and needs to be rebuilt or the stone is at risk of coming out (again). I can’t decide whether to stick with the original unique Art Deco setting or maybe change it up slightly? Maybe take away the side diamonds and add them to a pave style band instead? Or make a halo around the sapphire? I do like the ring as is, but as I have to unset the stone again I thought I would rethink it once more.

I love sapphires too and that one is such a pretty color, not like the dark ones you see in dept stores.....you're so fortunate to have inherited it

As you have to reset the stone anyway, I think it would be a good idea to try out different settings like a pave band on other rings you can find. I wouldn’t put a halo around such a large, stunning stone however! I also quite like the setting as is :)

Such a beautiful ring! I agree with others that this is a timeless, classic setting! Personally, I would keep the same setting even if it means rebuilding it. You are very fortunate to have inherited such a treasure!

I agree with A1aGypsy....this is timeless. A halo would make that beautiful timeless ring look just over the top, and not in a good way. If it were me, I would get it reset with stronger prongs and keep the look of that eye catching setting. You just have to wear that piece and not let it sit in a box or safe somewhere.

Wow! That is truly amazing!
Blew my socks off!
I have been studying up on vintage and antique jewelry for some time now and I can confidently advise you that the value of a vintage piece becomes exponentially more valuable when it remains in its original setting. In other words, the unheated sapphire stone is super amazing but when it’s set in the original ring....it becomes something better than the sum of its parts.
Of course, there are times when stones are set in just awful settings or the setting itself is compromised. But from what I can see, that all original piece is stunning.
Truly To Die For ❤️

It’s a stunning ring, and it’s unique. You don’t want to make it look like other sapphire rings out there, that would be a complete waste of a gorgeous stone. Have the jeweller make exactly the same setting.

wantabalenciaga,

Your ring is gorgeous!

I like the current setting and think the design is very classic. However, if you want something that is uniquely you; I totally understand that viewpoint as well.

Best wishes with your decision.
