About 3 years ago I bought my Rolex Ladies size Datejust two tone fluted bezel Jubilee bracelet and MOP diamond dial - I had no thoughts of even trying the midsize because at the time the ladies size felt chunky on my tiny wrist and I figured anything bigger would look too large on my very short and petite 4 11" self...

Well, fast forward about 3 years (I'm now almost 29) and the midsize has starting to creep into my thoughts and my ladies size no longer seems chunky like it once did and I wear in alone on my wrist. I have also gained a good amount of weight and my wrist is no longer teeny tiny and although I am loosing it, I can't stop thinking about the midsize! It seems like most ladies even those of petite stature have the midsize.

I love everything else about my ladies size so I would selling or trading in my ladies size and basically be buying the same watch in the midsize, is that totally ridiculous??

This is my only watch though and I want to be able to wear it daily as well as to the occasional formal wedding, event, etc... Would the same watch in the midsize be "too chunky" for fancier events? and is the midsize more of a trendy, less classic size?

Please help me decide!!

My feeling is you'd be sorry to lose that beautiful watch. It serves all the purposes you want to serve. The midsize is wonderful, no doubt (that's what I bought recently), but your trade in value will be poor, and a new midsize in those specs will be expensive. I don't think it's ridiculous at all to keep the specs and go up in size, but the economics of it are not too great.

(The midsize is also fine for all kinds of events, not too trendy or chunky.)

My suggestion: keep your Lady D and save to get a midsize with different specs for everyday, maybe more sporty (smooth bezel, oyster bracelet) to diversify your wardrobe.

I was thinking that the trade in or selling it would lose a lot of money but there have been several price increases since I bought the ladies and I was able to get a pretty good discount from an AD so the price now (around 12,000+) looks like it is over $4500 then what I paid.:amazed:

I really just want to stick with one watch and can't see myself buying another Rolex and I need the diamonds and MOP LOL they just make the watch for me!

So funny to hear you going through this. I remember very well when you got your watch. It was around the same time I got mine, a mid-sized dome bezel concentric dial. I thought omg I would love to be able to have chanel-girl's watch but I need bigger and can't afford the mop and diamonds. This past year I traded in my watch and I got the 36mm pink flower dial with diamond bezel. I say go for what you really want. I can see and read this watch so much better and I'm the opposite, I've lost over 70 lbs. Some times I miss the midsized but really can't read it well enough to justify having that size even though I have lost all that weight. I am sooo happy to have gotten exactly want I wanted and even though it's size only that you are changing, size truly does matter. I say go for it!!!!!!

I'm so happy you now have the watch you love and congrats on the weight loss:tup: Thanks so much for the help!

That's just what happened to me!
I had a YG 26mm with M o P face, diamond bezel and diamond markers with the President bracelet. I had it for about 8 years and I loved it, but I just couldn't stop thinking about the 31 mm midsize. I wanted exactly the same watch, but alittle bigger
We ended up getting a good discount and a good trade in price, so I got the 31mm.
The only difference is that I wanted Roman Numerals this time around.
I am so happy that I did it, although my DH thought I was crazy :)

chanel-girl, keep your lady datejust! Prices have gone up like crazy, you have to fork out even more if you want it again 3 years down the road.

I agree with jellyv, get a stainless steel domed bezel, oyster bracelet for diversity. Consider the oyster perpetual no date, if budget is a constraint.

Personally, I think big watches are just a trend (tsk...I got sucked into it too...haha...and bought an alternative, Omega Aqua Terra Quartz 30mm). I wouldn't spend too much money on trends....they come and go. Classics are here to stay.

That is exactly what I have been thinking: the same watch but a little bigger...Thanks!

Thats what I wondering is the midsize 31mm more of a trendy size...If I remember correctly you have the same ladies Rolex as me right? I think I remember admiring your pictures:smile1:

Yes, we have the same lady datejust two tone, MOP with diamond markers. I still love that watch and I think it's a great dinner/occasion watch. 31mm seems to be a 'norm' size for ladies now. I think it's still safe thinking of 31mm but not anything bigger than that unless it's a casual watch.

I am not too sure if it's just me but I find Rolex's 31mm a tad too big, doesn't sit as well on my wrist as the Omega's 30mm.

chanel-girl - all my watches have sentimental value so I wouldn't trade them in.

Omega Constellation - a gift from my mom in 2005
Rolex Lady Datejust - birthday gift from my husband in 2008
Omega Aqua Terra - 5th anniversary gift in 2011 (part of his and hers watches from me, 30mm for myself and 38mm for my husband)

Hmm, the only one that I thought of selling cause I hardly wear it anymore is the Tissot.

If you are REALLY only going to need only one watch, then trade it in. There is no use not being 100% satisfied because you should love what you wear. But if you THINK you may get another watch in the future, then keep what you have now because it's a shame to trade in your watch since it's a true classic. It's not such a bad idea to have two watches - one for dressier occasions and another for more casual events. You can get the TT midsize with smooth bezel and oyster bracelet with mop and diamonds (or white face with stick dial) so you have more variety.
