Hello lovelies!

I never use my lambskin classic flap with SHW. I have the square mini in cavier and always grab that instead when I want the Chanel look. I don’t like heavier bags, worry about lambskin, and don’t prefer silver. I also have not been into the Chanel look much (but can’t tell if that is a phase or not…I don’t prefer the long thin chain look or a bag with any logo).

My question is! Should I sell the classic flap since I don’t use it to free up funds. I am just a teacher (and not married). So I will never be able to afford another Chanel if I get the bite for one down the road. On the other hand, there are other bags I want and I can’t afford to have such an expensive bag just sitting there that I never use. This is a tough one for me! I am personally very satisfied with my square mini. Just worried that 10 years from now I’ll regret selling the classic flap.

Help! Thank you so much :)

It’s really a personal choice. I’m not a logo person, but I waited many years to rehome most of mine (bought at the boutique form 1990-2007) until I decided I was switching to Hermes in 2008. The few I kept were metallic reissues, but from 2008-2020, I wore Hermes bags 99% of the time. In 2020, I fell in love with an SO black mini chevron reissue, and I also bought a stingray micro boy at resale since I missed it the first time around. I still mainly wear Hermes, but I like having the variety.

Only you can know for certain whether you willl miss owning your CF, or if you may change your mind down the road.
I’m 54, and I regret letting go of a few items, but not bags, mainly chanel RTW. (I still mix and match and wear chanel RTW from 2021 on). O will say that I kept certain H bags for years that did not work for me, as placeholder bags, until I could find and purchase replacements that were more my style and aesthetic. The placeholders were a reminder not to compromise and to be certain of my next purchase. Also, recession is on the horizon, and I’m not sure you will get the optimum price.

ETA: I’m a fan of lambskin and find as it ages, it is more beautiful. I’ve found mine to be quite durable, and I do not baby my bags. i also don’t view your thread as a sign you are not ready to sell. it could go either way: not ready and seeking an excuse to keep, or simply asking for objective opinions from strangers as ot whether it’s crazy to sell a classic. Deep down, regardless of what any of us say, trust your gut instinct

Agree with everyone so far. There is too much doubt in your post. Unless you need the funds, wait to sell your bag. You should have no doubts when you sell. It probably isn't the best time to sell anyways as it seems the secondary sites seem to have alot more stock that sits lately.

I always recommend using the bag nonstop for a week or two if you're deciding to sell it. You'll generally have a very clear answer if you use it for a few weeks and come to know it better. And then if you do decide to sell it at least it got a few wears.
I love this idea!!! Maybe I’ll take her out for a spin and see if I can rekindle a relationship (lol). I also agree with many of you (thank you!) Maybe I should wait just a little longer to see if I reach a point when I’m 100% sure.

If it was me five years ago, I would hold and wait before actually selling the bag.
But my habit of using and owning things have changed a lot since pandemic started, and I can’t stand having something that expensive sitting on the shelf not being used anymore.

I would compare everything between this bag and that “other bag,” including price, frequency of use, longevity of outfit pairing potentials, and your desire towards each one of them. If after a few rounds of comparisons over a period of time (say, 1-3 months?) and your current bag still “wins” in all categories, it’d be reasonable to keep it. If not, you’d know what to do next

I wouldn’t sell if I were you. I also contemplated selling some flaps but I didn’t get a good price quote from FP and would never repurchase at the current prices. Better to hold onto it until you are absolutely sure you don’t want it anymore.

Hmm... this is a difficult one. Since you don't like silver hardware, worry about lambskin, and seem to prefer the mini, selling it seems like the right choice at present. However, tastes can change, and you might think differently a couple of years from now. So I would suggest holding on to it a bit longer until you feel sure you can let it go without any hesitation or doubt. Trust your gut and go with that.

If it's the only CF you own then I'd say keep it. It's not only it'll be more expensive if you want to repurchase, the quality will continue to decline. The CF's my mom bought in the 1990's were far superior compare to the ones I bought between 2010-2016....now my friends would look at my 'vintage' CF's and say the same thing, that mine are way better made than their brand new $10k bags. But I guess it's irrelevant if you don't see yourself using it. In regards to hardware, I used to be yellow gold only, but started this year I've became obsessed with silver toned hardware and wearing a ton of white gold/platinum pieces. Your taste in hardware may change, I kind of wished I've bought a classic flap in silver hardware but no way I'm dropping 10k+ on a CF that's made of unknown materials nowadays.
