I find the opposite true. If her life was so good, she wouldn't all of a sudden be telling us every detail.

She's telling us every detail because she wants you to feel sorry for her "there there Katy".She wants you to say to yourself "wow Katy is just like me, I can relate to her and now I will follow her and buy her stuff". I've worked in the media/entertainment industry for 16+ years, we tell our clients to do stuff like this all the time.

She also has an album that's coming out. Attention equals people buying your music. She wants out of being a celeb, yet she just signed a $20 mil contract to be a judge on a singing show. She would not have gotten that check, if she wasn't Katy Perry or a big celeb.

I believe it was $25 million for her to be a judge on the new AI. She's all about making money, which is reflected in that business decision. It does not appear she wants to slow down.

She's all over the place and contradicting herself constantly. Today is a whole new pile of yammerings with a vaguely "feel sorry for me" subtext, but every day it's something new.

She's boring to me. And petty AF. (So is Taylor, IMO)

I agree that she's out there trying everything to get sales. First she was slamming Taylor, now she's saying she forgives her. Her cultural appropriation is problematic to me. She could easily give it all up now, but she won't. I don't have a problem with ambition at all, but why does she have to humble brag about being sick of "Katy Perry"? Please, just stop being out there if you're genuinely tired of it all and interest in you would fizzle pretty fast.

I read an article the other day about her and how she's having trouble adjusting her image to the new trends and consumer tastes. The fruit outfits and whipped cream bras aren't what her target demographic wants, hence the 'purposeful pop' phase she's in now. Supposedly she's feeling a little lost because she's not riding the top of the charts this time.

I used to like her music and thought she was entertaining, but I'm not feeling this new era and apparently I'm not alone.

What does her target demo want?

I always find it amusing when bubblegum pop acts take themselves seriously. If she wants to make purposeful music then she needs to take a page out of Pink's book. Pink reinvented her image and made her music fun but serious, stays off the radar and lives her life quietly.

Supposedly her target audience is 'less frivolous' than previous listeners. I guess they're trying to tie into the whole 'being woke' thing that a lot of millenials are apparently into. I am not in the target audience, nor do I really buy into that sort of trendy consciousness so I admittedly don't get it. I kind of enjoyed the campy stuff so her saying she wants to make "purposeful pop" doesn't do much for me.
She either needs to get serious and totally embrace the social consciousness thing or just be silly and own it.
(Looking back through this, it reads like I'm a cranky old lady haha)

LOL @ being woke a millennial thing because it seems that's how the greatest appropriators, Buzzfeed, has repurposed the term. Buzzfeed are the biggest culture vultures ever and troll for stuff to repurpose without ever acknowledging context (maybe they don't know context)....wokeness is a code switching term that black activist use to wake up their people by saying more with less...it's such an old damn term, like bae, to shade, to read, etc. I chuckle at folks need to be so cool. Sorry I'm going off topic....anywho, maybe that's why her attempt to exhibit consciousness aren't being taken seriously. I enjoyed her campy stuff too and I think campy fun songs are necessary sometimes...everything doesn't have to be serious or speak to your soul. Sometimes you just want to sing a nice little bop.

I kind of giggle at people calling themselves 'woke' because when I was a younger kid, what people are calling woke is what we just called being politically informed or aware. I've never actually heard it used till now but I 100% believe that it was a term stolen from somewhere else. It seems as if so many things being passed off as original have their true roots elsewhere.
And I agree about fun music, that's why I liked her other stuff. It was fluff, but everyone needs a little fluff sometimes.
