I'm really surprised they are having another surprise sale after just having one. I notice a lot more sales popping up so I am wondering if their sales are down for the year and they are trying to make up for it.

Surprise sales have generally been mostly outlet items with a few retail pieces mixed in. It's just that there were less retail items (mostly retail clothing) mixed in this time

Yes, but in the past they always explicitly stated which items were made for the outlet, making it easy to spot which were retail items (there are always fewer and fewer). But now every single item is an outlet style piece and they aren't saying anything except labeling the whole site differently with the "compare alt" note on the price.

I've noticed that too. Normally the surprise sales are more spread apart and then black friday is just around the corner.

Does anyone know if I can go into a store and purchase a box? The bag that I bought did not come with one from the surprise sale and it is a gift.

Also, is there a way to tell if the bag is from the outlet or the store?

I've never had to purchase one, usually they'll give it, no questions asked since I go to my local boutique. Outlet bags have a separate code vs boutique bags, different lining and often a plaque instead of a gold spade.

If you purchased it from this particular recent Surprise Sale, it was definitely from the outlet as all of the bags/items on this one were. They changed it up this time and instead of just writing on the item description "made for our outlet stores" it just says "compare at" on the listing. ALL of the items I looked at from this sale said "compare at" which they state on their FAQ page means it is not from their retail store. I don't know what the retail store's policy is on giving you boxes for outlet bag purchases but it can't hurt to ask. I don't believe outlet bags ever come with boxes, but then again I don't know if the retail bags come with boxes either (I've only ever received a dust bag with my bag purchases). Hope that helps!

You have a very lucky friend! :D Outlet item style numbers start with a W. P is for boutique.

If you live close enough to a store, it cant hurt to ask! KS sales people are usually very friendly. They have never been stingy with bags or boxes when I purchased something even if small. And this is at boutiques, I havent had much opportunity to visit outlet stores.

I saw several items that were not made for outlet. As usual those sold fast. But later on, I saw some boutique bags that would say the "compare at" language. And I saw outlet bags not use that language. It was confusing. I was disappointed that the bags didnt say designed for outlets like they usually do. I always appreciated that. Anyway, I thought there were some really good prices on cute items.

If you purchase an item on katespade.com, you usually have to mark it as a gift and pay a fee to get a box. Not all items have this option. In a boutique, they will box an item without asking or, at minimum, give you one if you ask.

The ones not made for the outlet must have sold within the first few hours of the email being sent out because I went through all of them on the site that morning and each one said "compare at". Glad to hear they are selling at least SOME retail items at these sales still! I agree, the wording on their site is pretty confusing and I wish it was as clear as it was before with "designed for our outlet shops".

They do go quick. I mostly remember the cat items and a pineapple bag. The Emma Lane fabric cat spot print tote, Lacey and Stacy are actually still around. Even though the site says "compare to" it is not an outlet line.

I also believe most of the clothing still left was from the boutique. At least, some of the photos look familiar to me. And they are modeling boutique accessories.

I have never had much luck with surprise sales. I am always too indecisive or dont check my emails that day.
