Kate Spade Kate Spade Cuts Back on Sales to Be More Exclusive

I love a bargain but a brand can't survive with continuous discounting. It "trains" their customer to wait for a sale causing significant loss of income.

Additionally, luxury never equals frequent sales. You can't get a sale on a Ferrari or Bentley. You can't get a sale on Harry Winston jewelry. It's not comfortable for all of us who live nice things and are bargain hunters but, luxury means exclusive. And to maintain their brand, KS can't be on sale all the time.

I know many people like a completely new bag, but, one way to approach this is to buy resale and then get your bag authenticated. That way you can enjoy the style you like at a price that is more reasonable.

(P.S. Never carry an unauthenticated resale bag. We don't want to support cheats and theives who counterfeit).

It makes me wonder what made them decide that it was time to reduce sales, KS seems to be thriving even with their contininious sales...

I suppose the only thing is that over time, bags from consumers will be accumulated and it they resale it, it seems like everyone will have one.

Did anyone see the Surprise sale? Mostly outlet items, but the girls at my job really cleaned up and got tons of stuff! I think they are moving away from having Kate Spade items on sale and more marketing the outlet.

Meh - more from ebay, then. I will say that I have learned to check whether an item on a surprise sale is an outlet item, but I have gotten some amazing deals that way. Now I will probably buy fewer pieces direct, since I find MANY to be overpriced.

I have never owned a Kate Spade bag but I do own some other Kate Spade products I Phone / I Pad device battery charger, clothing, jewelry. I don't think it's that bad for the brand to become a bit more exclusive because it will help push sales. I think when you see handbag designers who are constantly having sales or the quality of the product diminishes consumers tend to go elsewhere.

I think Kate Spade as a brand is becoming cautious they don't want to become like Coach which is overly saturated in the handbag market with its chain of outlets. Unfortunately, with this over saturation of Coach handbags in the mainstream, outlets, consistent discount sales, quality has declined and the overall stock/sales of the brand has declined. This was been documented in the press and they are now closing several boutiques and outlets.

I loved Rebecca Minkoff bags back in the day and she rarely had sales like she does now or she would have the sample sale. Her bags back in the day were better quality and much more expensive $650 for a MAM and you didn't see sales all the time.
Also, RM bags were made in NYC not in China...

Other luxury brands like LV which don't have sales have put a bit of a cap on production of bags & products to promote greater consumerism of their goods.
