I was not impressed with his first collection. It looked rather basic and juvenile, it reminded me too much of Loewe. Where is the mature sophisticated Dior man?! While I wasn't very into Raf's tenure at Dior, after seeing this I'm yearning to go back in time when Raf was designing at Dior, that was so much more interesting than this. Hopefully he does better with the womenswear collection, but I wouldn't put my money on it.
Agree. The real test is womens so lets see how he does. Hopefully the book totes aren't a reflection of what's to come...

They're not looking for sales from Mens RTW, they're looking for publicity to sell accessories and fragrances

I am obviously one of the few that liked it.

I liked the casualness without resorting to urban s t r e t c h y so-called 'sportswear'. I liked the nonchalant way JWA styled tailoring chucked-on, more than a hint of Scott's irreverence. Like schoolboys/office workers coming home from a posh school/city job after a couple more hours of hanging out in the park with their mates.

I got some great styling inspo.

Liked it too! And found this great YouTube video where they explain the concept behind it - and help set it in the history of the House. Really helps to see how much intellectual work designers do when creating collections. To the outsider (me) it can sometimes just feel like, oh, being different and setting trends.

I loved there were so many incredibly wearable pieces, with a quirky twist - and then also statement pieces that no one would wear outside a red carpet, but create a mood, tone, and direction. It referenced Dior history, without being slavish to those ideas. I do feel bad if you were wed to Kim Jones’ streetwear style or Maria’s in women’s…it will not be that. And I get that’s frustrating.

I love that suede cannage duffel bag in the light khaki green, except when I saw the pricing (10k SGD is really shocking to me for something so simple - maybe I’m too used to Loewe pricing).

I think the RTW is sophisticated but whimsical at the same time, but I really don’t understand how long coats and knits form an SS collection? Is it just me being a stickler about it or is it on trend to suffer in silence on warm months while donning these “summer” clothes?

Yes unfortunately like most high end brands, but I don't think so far his designs are good enough to generate much publicity except for the fact him starting designing at Dior. Curious if he will be generating enough buzz when the newness of him at Dior wears off.

I loved the show. I definitely have my eye on that green suede bag and a couple of other ones. I have a feeling I'm in trouble since I haven't even seen what he'll do for women's bags yet.

Yeah I think the show is an overall good debut for JWA at Dior and I certainly see a good number of individual items that would appeal (once one gets over the sticker shock). Really looking forward to seeing what he does for womenswear and couture.

Loved it. Stayed true to the codes but he added his own flair. I don’t understand those saying “it’s giving J.W. Anderson at Loewe vibes.” That’s because it IS J.W. Anderson…coming from Loewe…coming from his namesake line…as himself. 😂
I loved all of the clothing; the handbag line wasn’t as strong. But it was a really beautiful first show!

Or when they put sheer dresses in winter collections and I don't know why there is pre-fall when fall is already short in many places in the world and 'resort' doesn't mean vacationwear 😸

I enjoyed the first show. Was a little apprehensive tbh when we only saw the book totes prior to the show.
I think it gives a casual vibe (with hints of elegance) that doesn't scream commercial (sorry Maria Grazia) or super streetwear (hello Pharrell Williams). Not saying that Grazia was always super commercial, I really loved her pieces in the first handful of years, but it just felt repetitive and somewhat weird at times.
I'm eyeing those men's bar jackets. The Dior women's classic bar jacket is a little too feminine for me but maybe a Dior men's? 🧐

Well Anthony Vaccarello's SL 2023 SS had these long full leather coats (and the shorter leather jackets) and it confused me as well.:lol:But hey, people loved it! (though most people did wear them in the fall/winter)
At least cloth makes a little more sense than leather for the summer lol.
