Jewelry burn out?

I used to LOVE jewelry!

But for the past few years I have found myself wearing favorite pieces and the rest of my jewelry sits in the safe or in my jewelry box.

Lately I have sold some items and I am going to sell more.

For me, I've decided I don't need this much jewelry ( way more than one person can wear and really more than I want to rotate...) and I am going to sell what I don't LOVE and keep pieces I will wear daily and some pieces for special occasions.

But...I have been doing the same thing with my wardrobe, my purses, etc. I am on a purge...except for books. I will probably always have waaaay too many books.

P.S. For me I don't think it has anything to do with getting old or being seasonally depressed. I have just felt like I have way too much stuff and it is burdensome for me to have this much stuff. I'd rather have fewer things I really love and use and let the rest go.

How did you let go of those pieces that were gifts or bought on special occasions?

I could have written your whole post! I got tired of taking care of so much stuff and wanted more time to focus on other pursuits.

I have even been getting rid of books -- slowly. I used to have over 500 and now I have less than 100. I realized that there aren't that many I want to re-read. And the ones that are readily available, I don't need to have in my house.

I only keep the pieces that really mean something to me or that I really love. Truly, I had so much jewelry, bought for so many "special" occasions that special stopped meaning anything. It's not so special if it's a common occurrence.

I don't know if I will ever be able to get rid of many books. Kudos to you! Maybe I'll get there someday.

Maybe you're getting tired of the consumeristic culture. I used to buy tons of clothes, and most of them just ended up with tags unworn. Then I realised that all this "stuff" that I had was just wearing me down! Maybe if you start letting go of some things you will start to feel a bit lighter... And not just jewelry. It could be fatigue from just too much of everything and becoming all too overwhelming. I put myself on a strict ban not to buy any clothes at all this year, and so far it's worked out well. Maybe try not to buy anything for a whole and let your system "reset" :)

Yeah. This makes a lot of sense, too.

Things don't make you happy...people and experiences do! It is a cliché but the best things in life really are free. The pursuit of new jewelry, bags, clothes etc is fun. It is the hunt that provides the thrill. This is why I take months and sometimes years before I make a big jewelry purchase because I want to be 100% sure I really want or "need" it. Once you have them you always want more but these things won't bring you happiness. Pick the pieces you truly love and wear them. Especially if there is sentimental value. For the rest...give away or sell. Less is more!
