even if you don't return it, i would go back to that store and tell the general manager what you overheard and how upset you are. any proper manager would give you more money back to keep the sale and satisfy you. if they refuse to do anything, then return it.

Hey, I am in the jewelry business and I can tell you that most upscale jewelry stores make over 10 times what they paid the designer to fabricate it. So I never, ever, ever buy jewelry retail and always look for a manufacturer or designer to make me the ring.
A few years ago my husband wanted to surprise me with a diamond ring and almost bought me a 3ct diamond eternity ring from Neiman Marcus until I stopped him. I am in the biz and know that he was going to get ripped off.
So then we bought a 5ct ring for 70% less than what Neimans was charging. If I were you I would return the ring- you shouldn't feel like you've been had- you won't enjoy wearing it.

As a general rule for BB&B, the sales staff is authorized to give up to a 40% discount on non-prestige watches and jewelry. So when they tell you that they can only take 10% off any given item, they are just trying to toy with you.

I hope that you brought the thing back for a full refund!

Not only would I return it and tell the SA and the Manager exactly why I would also write a letter to corperate. I know they want $$ but if they keep ticking off customers they won't ever do any business! I would let the store know I was writing it, too! Go gettem girl!

I would return it and make the SA and the manager VERY aware of why I am returning it. We all know that brick & mortar stores have some pretty severe mark-ups but there is NO reason why they should be discussing such a thing within earshot of a customer, let alone gloating about how well they fleeced me. Shame on them!

Take a picture of it before you return it & see if you can have a jeweller custom make you something similar.

And bring your appraisal with you also.

What a JERK!

OMG! That's absolutely horrible. I feel like the whole Zales corporation is a HUGE ripoff, no offense to anyone who thinks otherwise. They just have such huge markups on their stuff that I've seen way cheaper in other jewelry stores, even little independantly owned stores. And for them to be gloating about how they got you good! :cursing: Right then and there I would have been like what the %$#@ did you just say?! You can take your ring and shove it! Ugh the audacity!
