Hullo, everyone!

I'm thinking of purchasing a jersey 2.55 flap bag. I'm the biggest klutz on this planet, so I get totally stressed out when I bring out my classic lambskin - simply out of the fear that I might spill something on my beloved bag, get it scratched etc.

I'm not such a huge fan of the caviar bags (although I'm aware that it needs a lot less maintenance than lambskin). That's why I'm thinking of purchasing the jersey or satin flap bags.

I know a lot of you may think it's not worth paying so much money for a non-leather Chanel. However, for me, I just want a lovely flap bag that I can take out of the house whenever I want without worrying too much about it or having to check the weather forecast in advanced. Would love to seek out your opinions and thoughts on whether keeping a jersey or satin flap bag is a lot less stressful and low-maintenance compared to owning a lambskin bag.

Thanks!

I think that the jersey and satin bags are even more high maintenance than the lambskin bags! Also, Chanel will not repair/refurbish non-leather bags later down the road. I love the non-leather bags as well, but they are even more stressful! Some are so fabulous, however, that they are totally worth it. If you are looking for something more low-maintenance, and non-leather, how about vinyl?

^Hmm, I honestly don't see that bag as being harder to care for than lambskin. :nogood:

It's black, and jersey won't rub off and show wear and tear the way lambskin does. I have the silver melrose cabas, and although it gets little balls on it (my dog's hair? lint? who knows), it's not something that can't easily be taken off with a lint roller. I don't see any noticeable wear at all, but then again, I rotate my bags a LOT.

I definitely think satin is way more high maintenance than jersey.

I have a wool jersey reissue and honestly it seems to require less care than my lambskin bags...She's still holding up great and is quite tough actually...I think you would be very happy with the reissue you're thinking of getting...post pics if you do get her!

I think satin its very high high maintaince no matter what brand it is, its just like such a stress! thats y i like it in black better it can hold up a lil more.
but since you are asking for jersey reissue, i think this flap would hold up pretty good, you probably have to clean it everytime you use it, although i dont know how would it hold up in the rain.
I wouldnt have a doubt of gettin this non leather bag or any other that i would like, if i was like you ( not liking the leather ones)

Anything satin is high maintenance. Just look at all the satin dresses. The jersery does seem more sturdy and a lot of the vintage reissues were jersey. For minimal maintenance, vinyl could be better

I have the satin kaleidoscope flap, and while it's very pretty, you have to be careful. I'm careful with all my bags and never let water touch them or anything. I don' take satin one out too much. I haven't had a problem with it though. Not an everyday bag though, IMO.

The bag you posted the link to is very very pretty though! I don't have a jersey Chanel, so I'm not sure how well they hold up. Light colored jersey seems like it would get dirty quick though.... But I'd consider dark jersey for sure.

I've been drawn to the jersey flaps for a while now but I have seen one owned by a friend and the jersey is pilling even though it's never been worn. I don't know how you would keep that from happening if you were to wear the bag regularly. They really are very pretty though.

I have a satin flap bag from 05P and it's a very very high maintenance bag (not helped by the fact that the colour is light and there are three bits sticking out of the bag). I have only carried the bag twice (it was out literally for 60 mins max in aggregate) and I already see stray threads coming out!!! I remember poshhoney also commenting before that her coco's croco bag (which is a satin bag) shows a tiny sign of wear after just one use!!!

I cannot help on the jersey but satin is definitely not lower maintenance than lambskin!!!! It's MORE :sweatdrop:

Gosh, that's awful! Do you know what caused the pilling, though? I've been wanting to get a reissue for a very long time, and this is just my opinion anyway, but I honestly think the reissues look prettier in non-leather material *ducks from flying tomatoes*
However, now I'm getting more and more discouraged from buying a jersey flapbag with all the caution and warning comments I've been getting from tpfers these days!

Has Chanel ever produced bags made of canvas material? I know, I know....canvas is totally el cheapo and not worth the retail price tag....but I reckon it should be totally low-maintenance and sturdy! Plus, that Chanel graffiti canvas hobo which Emma Watson paraded around last year during the Harry Potter promo tour in LA is lovely and ftw!

Yes, Chanel does make canvas bag. I have this one which is canvas - the yellow one in the bottom. I have not carried it yet but again I don't think it requires less maintenance than a lambskin bag. I also have tweed bags and they are high maintenance too!! :push:

I think if you are truly looking for a low maintenance bag, vinyl and calfskin and caviar are your best bet. Calfskin in particular is very sturdy!!! A lot of the 2.55 bags are actually made in calfskin. You can really abuse it and it will still hold its shape. Pretty amazing, huh?

Thanks for your advice, MIffy27! Much appreciated! Would any calfskin material do the trick or some types are sturdier over others? I understand that there are different types/treatment of calfskin. Not fond of the metallic ones, though. Gosh, I'm so picky and fussy, aren't I?
