I think one has to be either a big fan of Mme. Jane Birkin or Hermes history to pay that kind of price for that kind of bag.... Mme. Birkin has not been know to treat her namesake kindly.

Hello, you read my mind on this one! After seeing those pics where she was dragging it on the ground (I exaggerate slightly) I don't think I would want it unless I was her "biggest" fan. Non merci!!

Just an update - according to the website, it sold for 74,352 euros. If I converted it correctly, that is about 99,000.00 US dollars. That can't be right can it?

yes, it's correct. Hammer price for 60k euros...makes 74k with the commission.

It was her 4th Birkin...not the original one you so often see pics of. I love how it is box leather but was so used that it slouched like a taurillon clemence bag....beautiful!
