James Perse-Worth the money?

I love James Perse but I find that after laundering the cotton items they'll lose elasticity and start to fade and sometimes shrink.

I started washing all my JP stuff in cold and hang dry (then hit with steam or throw in the dryer for about 10min to soften). For $50 tank and $100 cotton shirts, they better last.

I have a James Perse dress that I adore, it's stretch cotton, done in a dressy body-hugging style but in a less serious fabric. Ultra comfortable, and fits in all the right places!

Wow! I just received these polos and I am in looooove! Amazing fit, and incredibly soft. They are worth every penny. Now I just need to maintain them carefully. Thanks everyone for your input. I think i have a new obsession.

If anyone has any tips on caring for pricy white cottons and keeping them white without bleach, I'd love the input.

imo, james perse quality is not worth the high price. any shirt i have from that label pills very easily.

i'd only buy it on sale.

ETA: glad it worked out! be careful of bags rubbing against the side - my shirts have pilled quickly.

I have a thick cotton peacoat from James Perse. It's probably my favorite jacket and it's so soft. I think it was still $$$ even though it was on sale. On one hand, I'd say it's not worth the money, but OTOH, I haven't found anything else close in quality, cutting, and style in a cheaper price range, I feel great whenever I wear it, and whatever jean dyes rubbing off onto the (beige) jacket wash right off.

T shirt wise, I think they're good but I'm getting exposure to other brands which I prefer for the same price range.

Agree. They are cut nice and they sit on the body well (even my b/f notices - same with Splendid tees - and he rarely notices when I get a haircut) but not worth $50.

I get them on sale - the last sale I went to with James Perse tees in NYC had $10 t-shirts in black and white. Tons and tons of them on the sale table. I also get them handed down to me from people. With this said, I guess they do last (same with the Splendid and C&C California tees). However, I'd rather save my $50 dollar bills, put them together, and buy something nice!

That's my two cents!

Congrats on your new JP purchase Cecilia! You're going to love it! I have a few JP tops and I adore them - they're great quality, they hold their shape well, and they have a flattering fit.

I also try to buy my JP items on sale/under retail. FYI, they usually go on sale at Saks and I've even found some at Marshalls and at the Saks and Barneys outlets.

Thanks everyone-

After reading all these messages, I probably would not pay full price for the tees. I went and checked a few out at Nordstrom, and thought they were ok-maybe a little thin. These Polos that I got are in a different catagory IMO. They are thicker, more substantal, amazingly soft, with a length and cut that is just perfection.

I'm also checking out Three Dots tees. My lifestyle has recently changed , lol... and now I'm shopping for tees instead of work clothes.:p

I always wear James Perse basic tees. Definitely NOT worth paying retail. Sort of justified at sale price. But the material and craftsmanship on their cotton items are average--nothing worth writing home about.
