Hello,

I woke up this morning and the intrusive thoughts instantly hit me. I wanted to ditch my yellow gold collection and start building the white gold. The problem, which I never thought I’d have is that over the last several years I purchased multiple bracelets, both Cartier and VCA (5 motif carnelian and onyx) all in yellow gold. I cannot get the white gold out of my head, and would love to have a unified look, matching my engagement jewelry and rhodium plated Cartier tank. To make matters worse, I’m thinking of purchasing the 5 motif guilloche in white gold. Yes, I know it scratches, yes I know it’s not for every day, however I love wearing my jewelry every day. I love my yellow gold onyx, but I’m concerned it would not go with the guilloche, and it would just break my heart. 🥲 Has anyone gone through a “transition” or how do you incorporate wearing both? Pictures would help me x1000!! Thanks!

I have gone through a white gold phase, then yellow gold, then rose gold, and right now I'm really into white gold again. I hoard, so I have all the golds, and I just wear whatever suits me that day. Build your white gold collection as you can. If you need to sell some older yg pieces to fund, I would suggest keeping some you love, in case you want a change now and then.

I was planning to say exactly this, and of course May has phrased it better than I ever could.
I completely agree. Over the past 10-15 years, I went from only WG/platinum, to nearly exclusively YG/RG, and now I am back in a WG/platinum phase. I wear it all now.
Keep what you love regardless of the gold color. These are timeless pieces, and you will come back to them eventually.
If it makes you sad to not wear them for awhile, I get a lot of happiness out of wearing the same stack and jewelry combinations for a couple of weeks, and then switching it out for something different. That way all of your pieces could be worn, yet in cohesive combinations at the same time.

I wore white for decades only to be told by DH and my jeweler that yg looks better on my skin tone. Wear whatever pleases you but dont release things too quickly in case you want different choices down the road  I prefer not to mix wg and yg, but the longer I browse TPF, the more certain I am to never say never lol

I have always been a wg gal (with a tiny bit of rg) but at one point, for a change, I focused on yg. That lasted for about 8 yrs but now I dont buy any yg and stick only to wg and rg. Our tastes change and that is ok. Sadly, because of that span where I focused on yg almost exclusively, that meant my wg and rg were severely lacking. When I decided to shift my focus back to wg and rg, I felt like I had to start all over. Now I am happily chipping away at my wish list. I put a positive spin on the process and enjoy doing my research and determining what I do and do not want to add. Sometimes during this I realize what I thought I wanted to add, I actually don't. Build your wg collection, but look at it as an exciting process where you get to look at new designs, releases and some of the classics. Overtime you will have your wg curated collection and then you can change items out as your looks require; moving between your yg and wg pieces. Whatever you decide, I suggest you don't rush! Use the opportunity to build a wg collection as the chance to explore and try new (for example as were on a VCA thread) VCA designs you perhaps didn't before. This is your opportunity to start fresh and building a whole new set. So fun!

Haha, it happens to most of us I believe.
I was really into silver/white gold/platinum for the longest time in my late teens, early 20s. I got into rose gold or pink gold in my mid-to-late 20s because I felt YG was too harsh/contrasting and that RG complimented my skin tone better. And, then well, I got into YG  because for some reason, I started to really like it.
Honestly you can't go wrong with what you fall in love with! I just mix and match anything at this point haha. I have a pretty evenly spread out collection of all the metals so it all depends on what I'm feeling that day.

I think about this occasionally too! So glad I'm not the only one 🥹 most of my collection is either YG or RG but I often think about a WG set ....I haven't made the plunge to start collecting WG so here I am reading others journey on the switch 😅

If I were you, I would go with WG MOP pieces and WG Perlee pieces. That’s what I decided to do, plus it goes with everything! I had the guilloche but it scratched too easily and got dirty quickly. I am wanting to do a YG collection one day, my taste is a little expensive so it’s definitely a future goal! I use the a 10+5 motif necklace if you’re wondering the length.IMG_1113.jpegIMG_1001.jpegIMG_1127.jpeg

Growing up, I've only worn YG (18k & 24k) since I got most of my fine jewelry pieces from my parents and relatives on my birthdays. As I've gotten older I grew to love RG as I find it much more flattering on my neutral/cool skin tone so I've started buying my own RG pieces even though my mom would roll her eyes on them  In the recent years, I've started collecting WG/platinum pieces too as they're also very flattering. During the early transition period and with very limited pieces in the metal color, I tend to just pair them with simple diamond pieces, imo everything goes with diamonds and you don't see as much metals competing with each other. I wouldn't want mix metals just because the pieces come from the same brand/collection though, like in your case, YG/onyx with WG guilloche. But ultimately, it all depends on your personal tolerance for mixing metals. Some people just wear different metal pieces together.

In my younger days I was wearing only wg/plat as I was told it looks better in my brown olive Asian skin, then I explored into yg & loved it then I discovered pink/rose gold from Cartier & loved it as its more subtle n doesn't stand out as yg on me. For now, I mixed & max😅 but sold few pieces as I learnt that quality high end pieces over quantity. Also as I'm closer to my 50s I tend to choose jewellery that is age appropriate rather than going what social media influences.

If you like the way each looks on you, I think the look of mixed metals is nice! And you have more options for pieces as well. Personally I only wear white gold and platinum, because I think that's what works with my skin tone. And sometimes that is limiting, because not all designers make WG or platinum options for each piece, sadly. I am sometimes tempted to consider rose gold if it's a piece that doesn't come in WG, but I never consider yellow gold....sadly for me it makes me look sickly, haha.

@missrxx You have already received great advice here on the forum. Many of us have gone through different phases of ‘like, love, obsessed, meh, disinterest… repeat!’

Tastes change overtime and that’s okay. But, I also feel it’s like a circle. We try different things and then come back full circle. I would not sell any of your YG pieces that you wore a lot for now. Take your time and add a few WG pieces, one piece at a time to see if you truly love WG as much as you thought you would. Down the line if you still don’t like YG and have stopped wearing it completely, then time to re-home/gift those pieces.

I wore mostly WG and YG in my 20s and 30s. Then shifted to rose gold with a vengeance. Even though I absolutely love my RG pieces (and wear them the most), I found myself reverting back to WG. Now, I wear all three metals and my favorite combination to wear is a mix of RG and WG together. I know many people don’t like to mix metals and I get that because I was a purist for so many years myself. But, I am having so much fun going outside my comfort zone and experimenting:biggrin:

With regards to guilloche, I think it’s a fabulous piece and if you love it, then get it. I wear my RG guilloche bracelet at least 3-4 days in a week. Scratches don’t bother me. TBH my eyes can’t even see any scratches! For the insane amounts we spend on these pieces, my take is that we better wear the heck out of them.
