Hi, I'm looking to buy a bag this Christmas. I'd like to use for work as well as during weekends. So not too big and not too small.

i do like trendy bags but I'd also like to keep the investment longer - hence looking fo the next classic bag.

I'm eyeing saffiano lux small double zip - is this becoming outdated or on its way to classic status?

TIA for the help!

Other bags I'm eyeing are:

Saint Laurent Sac du Jour or the new one with YSL logo ( I think small cabas monogram).

For the former, I heard its heavy, and for the latter, I haven't heard any feedback.

Thoughts will be appreciated thanks!

SDJ is really heavy even when it is empty. I was thinking about buying one but changed my mind immediately after checking it out at a department store.

I am biased but I love Prada bag more than other brand, suggest looking into Prada double bag (it is. Saffiano double pocket without zip, and the lining is TDF), or the new Prada flap bag. Those are my target for 'classic trendy'...

SDJ is independen too heart, Celine's new ones are not So interesting, LVs style needs to mature a bit more, so it is Prada for me....

I really like the Prada lux totes; they look very classic to me and I can't imagine them dating any time soon. They've super popular, maybe even a little too popular (in my city, anyway), but if you're not bothered by that I think it'd be a great choice.

I was thinking of SDJ small. Is that heavy?

Small was indeed the one that I tried on. It is heavy. You can check it out at a department store to decide. Maybe you will be fine with it. I just don't like heavy bags.

By the way I like the Prada Saffiano better. I know there has been quality issue, but the bag is light and practical. I am hoping to get one sometime.

Sorry Prada lovers but i think Prada is on its way out in a major way - especially the double zip (and this is from someone who wanted one way back when it first came out). And Saint laurent far too heavy imo for daily use.

Looking towards future years, I really like Fendi 2jours for work, but it doesn't translate as well to the weekend/casual. I love Givenchy Ants, but could see the opposite happening there where it's not formal enough for work.

Instead, I'd go for a small/mini (the one with the additional shoulder strap) Celine belt bag - a bag on the rise imo as Celine's other bags trapeze, luggage etc seem to be reaching oversaturation point, it's just gorgeous, roomy and pretty lightweight, if I hadn't already reached my max handbag limit this year, I'd get this in a heartbeat

I was looking for an old-style Cabas yesterday on ebay and was surprised by the popularity of Saint Laurent bags: many Cabas and SDJ bags have like 40 watchers. SDJ is indeed an It bag. It is beautiful, but just not practical.

I was debating between Saffiano double-zip and 2jours earlier. I don't think either of them is qualified for being an It bag. 2jours was somewhat popular awhile ago, but its popularity has since rapidly declined and been replaced by 3jours lately.

Belt bags are beautiful, but they are a bit too edgy for my taste. For a person like me who hasn't owned a Celine, do you think it is still worth getting the Luggage?

I think the Celine luggage is already dated. I prefer the Trapeze now, but I'm trying not to buy a "winged" bag (even the 3jours which I love) since that trend is feeling stale. I think in two years they'll be officially dated.

I would stay away from Prada saffiano totes! Have you read all the problems with these bags? Myself included!

Congrats on your new small ant!! I have the medium in croc nubuck and I have to say I'm a big big fan of all things ant! I definitely see it as more of an 'it' bag than the fendi 2jours, which seems more of a 'classic' work bag to me - you know something that isn't necessarily popular enough to be an 'it' bag but high enough in looks and practicality to be useful for work for a long time. I don't like the open shape of the 3jours and the size was too big for me, but the petit 3jours I can see growing on me...

And ITA about some of the YSL/Saint Laurent bags - some of them are very attractive looking still, but just too impractical unless you have a car service :P

As for Celine...I'm sure there are a lot of Celine luggage lovers who would say absolutely worth it - and the smaller sizes may not have the heavy weight problem. But i don't like hand carry only bags and imo the instant recognizability of luggage bags with that front zipper will also date them faster as it seems to reach oversaturation point. But that depends on where you live - in a city where celine isn't as common, could be less of a problem. And of course, if you love it and have tried it on in stores, who am I to dissuade you ;) I'm still considering a smaller trapeze if the right combo comes up in the future...

Have you tried on the belt bag though? I don't see it as edgier than the givenchy ants and it really hits a lot of good points with me on the design, size, and practicality - plus it's much cheaper than luggage at 2350 (sad that price is 'cheaper' nowadays...)
