My wedding rings and earrings are worth far more and I wear them in NYC and everywhere else as well.

I know what you mean. When we were in NYC in 2017, I just turned my engagement ring around when I was on the subway. I didn’t get my Rolex until 2019, so it wasn’t an issue back then.My wedding rings and earring are worth far more and I wear them in NYC and everywhere else as well.

Thank you!😊Agree with above. It is important for all of us to do what we are comfortable withRegardless of what you bring, have a great time
Thanks for your detailed input!😊Hi! For me, I wear my Rolex Daytona, engagement ring, and other jewelry to NYC. London, etc. I never worry, and I often travel solo, but everyone is different. So, it's not what we think; it's how you feel.
For you... the fact that you are even asking this question tells me your gut is telling you no, but you are looking for reassurance it's okay to wear.
Hence, I vote no, leave it at home. You are going to be worried the entire time you are in NYC if someone will rob you. It's just a watch, so leave it at home. I assume you are on vacation in NYC to have fun and relax (e.g. you do not live in NYC).
Above all else, the priority should be to enjoy your vacation and not worry about doing silly things to "hide your watch". I would focus on enjoying your trip, not thinking when you need to hide your watch when you grab a cab, take the subway, or walk down an empty cross-street.
The last thing that should be on your mind is worrying about getting mugged because you wore your Rolex, especially if you are not comfortable wearing it in NYC.
In terms of shopping at luxury brands (e.g. Tiffany, VCA, Chanel, Dior, etc), the SAs are not going to care if you walk in wearing sneakers, shorts, and a Timex or Apple watch, so if you are thinking of wearing it to impress them, I would leave it at home. SAs in NYC have seen it all; there are tons of tourists from all parts of the world.
Based on your concern, I vote leave the watch at home, and focus on enjoying your trip!
That's just my two cents. Hope it helps you decide.
Have fun in NYC! It's a great city!
Does the wristband work well? I thought about getting a wristband but does the watch leave a bump or is it not as noticeable?I have the same concerns in London, and I would suggest getting a wristband to cover up your wrist if you're heading to an area that you don't feel comfortable showing the watch, including public transport, and you're not wearing long sleeves.
I have a few of them from Lululemon which I feel do the trick.
I haven’t had issues with the Rolex. It might be more of a bump if it’s a much bigger watch I suppose?Does the wristband work well? I thought about getting a wristband but does the watch leave a bump or is it not as noticeable?
I made one with a new black sock (wrist bands were too tight) and it works amazing!I haven’t had issues with the Rolex. It might be more of a bump if it’s a much bigger watch I suppose?
agree with this. a couple visiting from new zealand got attacked at fashion island in newport beach. apparently they saw the husbands rolex and when they couldnt get that, tried to mug the wife, dragged her to the street, and she got runover by a getaway car. It’s good that you’re asking for feedback on the area you’re going to. However—One will always increase one’s risk (anywhere) wearing expensive jewelry, accessories or clothes. There’s no way to say you’re safe here or not safe there.
There are factors that increase the level of risk like, crowd size and ages and activities, police or security presence, carrying designer shopping bags, the time of day, the area, being a tourist and appearing unfamiliar with the area or local customs, being distracted, one’s level of situational awareness, physical presence— how easy of a physical target one might be, whether one is unsteady, frail, or encumbered in some way. Whether you stand out or blend in. And, just plain luck. All of these factors may change depending on the time of year or what things are going on in the economy.
You could give yourself 1 point for each thing that may elevate your appeal as a target to a criminal, and decide how many points is acceptable risk to you, and at what level the risk-benefit is unacceptable.
