Hi guys, I’m trying to decide on a bag to gift myself for Christmas, and having browsed through the forum on my sister’s account for a while now I figured I should finally create my own and ask for your help! I’m looking for an everyday tote for work and a clutch for weekends. The key being it needs to hold up to daily use (i.e. functional and hard wearing) but also look great. The bag I was leaning towards is a little Alexander McQueen number (it is just gorgeous!). Then I came across startup designer Issara (www.issara.co) in a TechCrunch article which likens them to Everlane (high-quality pieces at accessible price points) and I was intrigued. Anyone have any experience here?

Their bags do look beautiful and they have a ton of press mentions already, but I’m a little hesitant to invest in a brand-new brand (pardon the pun!). I’m currently eyeing their Classic Tote - it fits a macbook 13”, has a full length zipper (I lose everything so this could be a godsend), and I love the option to monogram as well. Thoughts ladies? Any other brands you would recommend?

I think the bags are simple, beautiful and appear to be well-priced for the product if it is ethically sourced and made with quality materials. So are you trying to decide between the work tote and a fun weekend bag (the McQueen)? I'd say choose the fun bag for Christmas, it's easier to justify a "frivolous expense" to yourself. You can buy the work tote any other time since it's a totally practical purchase.

Btw for the same money, you can look at Massaccesi handbags which are handmade in Italy by a small team and you can basically pick any style and customize the leather color and linings. No monogram unfortunately but you can put top zippers on anything, add pockets, lengthen straps, etc.

Thank you so much for the suggestions! Apologies for the late response - I seem to have missed this notification! I ended up getting a gorgeous cognac leather tote from Issara. I was a little worried before the purchase, but am absolutely in love with it now. It's super functional and goes with just about anything!
Have to admit I've bought a few things from Issara now - they've just launched a new trackable range (bummer I missed out on the trackable tote!). I haven't heard of Massacces before - will take a look! Cheers!

That's great, can you share some photos and maybe a mod shot? We are always very interested in indie designers and start ups here, especially those that offer quality at a great price!

@SarahWal Yes please share a pic of the tote! I just saw this on their instagram account and it is SO gorgeous. I'm peeved that I can't order it right now. It would be good to get some sense of the size and fall of the tote from other purchasers. I have their crossbody (gift from husband) and I love it for a casual day out. Want something bigger for work though, to hold my laptop and documents. Does it hold up to heavy wear and tear? upload_2016-9-17_19-35-17.png

@Kabergen22, I love that clutch you've posted! Little brighter than my usual colour scheme haha, but love the design! Also, do you like the cross-body bag? I was thinking of getting one for my sister this year for her birthday!

Here are a couple of pics of my tote (stuffed to the brim with my junk!) 14407878_10155197208276258_1381123550_o.jpg 14407878_10155197208276258_1381123550_o.jpg Tote Issara.jpeg Tote Issara.jpeg

Pledged on the bundle that includes the weekender (love that mocha colour), and structured tote. The bundle options work out way cheaper, and include a free wallet as well! My friend just ordered the weekender + briefcase bundle to present the briefcase to her fiance as a pressie. Smart christmas present ideas i reckon!

so glad to find this thread! i saw this brand on forbes and have been trying to find more info. i love the look of their backpack and tote, shame the soft tote isn't on their kickstarter since the prices are so much better. gotta wait til pay day, then ill see if i can justify splurging on a bundle x
