My niece is graduating from High School and will be heading to college in the fall. I am planning on giving her cash as a graduation gift but I was also thinking of giving her one of my rehab projects as a "extra gift". I have given her a few of my rehabbed bags in the past and she always seemed to like them and use them.

The bag I am considering giving to her is a red Legacy West Backpack 9827 from 2003 that has been fully cleaned and conditioned by me.

It's not huge but it is a nice size unlike many of the vintage Coach backpacks. But it is not like the fabric backpacks that I see kids wearing a lot.

I think it's gorgeous but I just don't know if a teenager would like/use a bag like this. Here are some pics, what do you think?

It looks totally gorgeous. But I don't know if college students favor backpacks or messenger bags these days. A younger friend told me messenger style. We were discussing it just the other day.

I don't see why not, its a lovely bag. The funny thing is my 11 would love this bag. She keeps asking me to buy her a little leather backpack like this for middle school.

Thanks, it sounds like she has good taste!

Thanks, I didn't know they were into messenger bags too, that's a surprise.

I think she will love it. It's very pretty. Backpacks are very in right now. ;)

Thank you, I think it is very pretty too.

It's so pretty!

Neither of my daughters were interested in leather. Both of them carried Glams for school. My younger one had a few Daisy backpacks from the outlet, but they were too small for school. A few years ago I found a 9791 large daypack at a thrift store in black. She didn't want it in black but she said if I ever found it in a pretty color, she'd like it.

I don't think a binder would fit inside your backpack. Your niece may not be able to use this for school, but I bet she would love it anyway.

I would see if a laptop first into it, my oldest doesn't bring her books to class but her laptop is a must - she just finished her first year at college

Good points, I will check, thanks!

Most college students throw everything into their school backpack or a tote. That bag isn't big enough to use as a college bag. I work at a college and most kids just carry a wallet or wristlet for their keycard, credit cards and cash. For nights out, they carry something very small as the thieves abound at parties. They want something they can keep on them.

It would absolutely have to fit a laptop or tablet at least. Most kids don't go "home" between classes work lunch etc so everything for the day has to fit. But it sure is beautiful!!

Yes to all of this. College students carry enormous backpacks! They put everything in them. MUST hold a laptop.

I still think she would love it. It's lovely, you did a wonderful job on it, and will you be my aunt? ;)

Thanks! My laptop fits, but just barely. I may give it to her anyway since it is an "extra gift" and I think that she might be able to use it for "non-class" outings. It would certainly hold an ipad.

Backpack style handbags are back with the teen set. I am a high school teacher, and several of my students carry smaller backpack handbags (reminds me of me in the 90's! :amuse: ) I think she would love this bag, it is classic and adorable!
