Is the trend of ‘engagement watches’ here to stay?

I've never heard of an engagement watch. I did try to buy DH his second Hublot when we got married and he freaked out thinking about me spending that on him and he bought it before I could! lol

I never heard of this until my friend said it’s more common now in her culture (Korean-American). The groom gets a watch from his in-laws. The bride gets a jewelry set or nice purse from her in-laws. Such a lovely idea!

It's kind of a new trend.
Think it is not a trend but common practice for the past at least 75 years, either for an engagement or a wedding gift depending on your market or your culture. Where I live, on engagement the man receives a watch, purchased by either the financée or her family, and the woman a ring. For the wedding, the couple exchange watches, often matching or at least by the same maker if a watch hasn’t already been given as an engagement gift. Not a question of counting the hours, but forever in time.

Yh you're right. What I meant to say was it's a new trend in the West.

im a big ring person so this does not appeal to me. however, a blogger I follow posted she wanted an engagement watch instead of an engagement ring last week. I was surprised but to each their own!
