Funny you mention that, I was thinking the same thing! I had the Hamilton Large Saffiano Tote, gave it away and ended up buying two Travelers which I feel are more contemporary because of the shape. Also, I was not a fan of the chained links on the crossbody strap. As someone who owns 90% saffiano bags, I found the vitello leather holds up great and is a smoother option to the crosshatched saffiano leather, though both leathers result in a structured bag.
It all depends on personal preference, I'm looking to get rid of one of my Travelers and replace it with a Selma. I've noticed that minimalistic designs are what catch my eye however the Hamilton will always be a classic because of the signature lock and key.

In my opinion, the Hamilton is a classic style that will be forever popular. I always get complimentary looks when I'm carrying my large n/s Hamilton totes and, as you say, the style has been around for a while. I still think people are discovering it because I often see women proudly carrying newly purchased Hamiltons.
I think they are still stylish. However, I've recently been having the same thoughts as you. I think the lock will soon look dated. Kind of like the Chloe bags that had the big padlock. I have one Hamilton Traveler. This will probably remain my only for that reason. However, I do believe that you should carry whatever you want if you love the bag....[emoji3]
I don't feel MK is a designer who will stand the test of time. There are very few classic pieces, from any designer. Even things we feel look classic now, we won't feel the same about in 5 years.
I hope not! I have many hamiltons a in different colors! I love them! I have them in classic colors. I also have the travelers too. I like the lock and key look plus the structure of the bag. I saw that the going prices for these bags are still $200 and over so there is still a demand for the bag. The travelers have been selling for lower because the soft leather scratch easily. Anyway, I'm going to carry Mk bags forever lol!
I sell MK bags on ebay and have found they were a lot more poplular last year than they are this year. I don't get near as much bidders on them as I used to. Not sure what that means to others, but to me it means looking to sell what is more in demand, and right now it seems to be the Riley and other large MK soft leather bags.
All business aside, personally, I don't care what is popular. If I like it, I buy it. You have to go with YOUR style and what looks good on you. Just because something is popular, doesn't mean it will look good on you. Also, I don't care to wear what everyone else is wearing. Kind of like wearing the same dress to the prom, that your friend has on! KWIM?? lol!

I say, "Do you, boo." Buy, use, wear whatever makes you happy. I had someone tell me they thought the N/S Hamilton was not as classy looking as the E/W...as if that was supposed to make me not like the N/S version anymore. Puuhhlease... That is a beautiful bag, and in my opinion, will always be.
That doesn't even make any sense! They are the exact same bag only in different sizes! If you're going to have an opinion, at least have it make sense! lol! The bag is very classy looking in either size. Too claasy for this scooter trash! lol! Now THAT makes sense! LMAO!
I feel that they will be around for a while...just like in 2004-6 Dooney and Bourke were HUGE, everyone had the copycat LV monograms and then Coach. It comes and goes..as fashion usually does. What's in now will be out in a few years, just wait a few years and it'll come back. HELLO CRIMPED HAIR
