Is the fine jewlery worth it?

Love the WG Kelly bracelet with 4 small corner diamonds….but the price is pretty steep for what it is (especially comparing to similar bracelets I like from other brands).

I can’t seem to make a decision. Perhaps that’s a decision in and of itself.

Interested to hear what others think.

Edited to add — not sure why I am able to tolerate an inflation on H bag prices but not an inflation on precious metals/ fine jewelry from H. I realize that is a contradiction here.

They are not worth it pricewise but they have nice and unique designs. I also like the fact that they have a good selection of rose gold pieces which I love. I’ve gotten 2 so far and looking to add a few more. I do prefer VCA in general for quality and craftsmanship.

This question begs for different answers =) Worth it? Depends. I have worked in the jewelry business for years and 18k gold jewelry does not cost what these high end designers charge for it. But we need to keep in mind that we're not only paying for the material, but the brand, the labor, etc etc...... When it comes to Hermes, then the question is really a loaded one. If we're looking for a quota bag, fine jewelry can definitely help. My own experience: I know their jewelry is overpriced, but I like the uniqueness of it and the craftsmanship. I love rose gold so I like theirs. I usually pick items that I know I will get used out of it. So, I am not sure I answered your question but it might provide some insight. Good luck deciding.

I actually tried this bracelet and would not recommend it. The 4 corner diamonds are quite small and from even a small distance it just looks like a plain gold bangle. I believe the price difference between that and the one with no diamonds is significant so if you like the style, go with no diamonds. I personally ended up choosing the one with diamonds all across the top, but I love bling.
As for whether or not Hermes’s fine jewelry is “worth it”, it depends on what makes something worth it to you. If you are doing a simple calculation of gold/stone weight to price, no. If you are calculating based on beauty or cost per wear, that is an individual decision. The quality is absolutely there, so that isn’t an issue. For me personally, it is worth it.

In terms of gold value or diamond value in weight, no. To me (and I have no H fine jewellery), if I ever bought it, it would be because I love the design or trying it on made my heart skip a beat. If you love the design, then it's worth it to you. Have fun trying the jewellery.

Wise words.

Worth it? For any fine jewellery to be 'Worth it' (I will define that as: having a continued and increasing value) it has to come from one of the famous jewellery houses/specialists. Those are the pieces that will hold their value in decades time. Pieces where the recognised added value, of design and craftsmanship over that of the materials, will be maintained over the years.

So, to quote kavnadoo, 'If you love the design, then it's worth it to you.'

I have a few pieces of their jewelry and I honestly do like their jewelry quite a bit. I will say though their gold prices are steep and they're a little too dainty or fragile in some cases. I wish they made more solid and rugged designs that are hefty. But of course, that would be very expensive lol

I have the large gold osmose ring which is very chunky and heavy. My only other piece is the punk bracelet with the diamond. My son got it for me in Paris, which helped make the price more "palatable." They are expensive in terms of gold jewelry. But I like them and wear them, so I guess that makes them worth it.

I don't think H's rose gold is all that pink.

And I agree with etoile de mer about the silver -- a lot of it is chunky and feels wonderful to wear. Some is very heavy, but it feels wonderfully smooth. I have the torsade geante bracelet, which weighs a LOT and costs the price of a gold bangle but I absolutely love it. One of the models in the fall 2020 runway show was wearing one.

Oh yes, you have some wonderful pieces!

I really want and gold chaine dancre. That is for sure a dream piece to own. But those prices are way out of my budget currently. Hopefully one day I can get one.

I agree that silver is chunky, sturdy, good quality, and super smooth and pretty.

I hope you enjoy your pieces!

Hello everyone,

I was looking at some Hérmes rings in rosegold with diamonds on them and wanted to ask my SA to show them to me in person. My question: Is the fine jewlery worth it? I'm used to yellow gold (at least 22k). Do you think it will statisfy me? Just as a recommendation. Maybe you own some pieces and love or even regret them.
Thanks in advance!
I have a bunch of rose gold pieces and love them. I would note two things
- 22K gold is really, really soft - too soft to set with many gems - that's why the standard in most places is 18K. 24K obviously is even softer. I wouldn't even try to wear a 22K ring for daily wear. YMMV.
- If you're used to yellow gold, you should try on the rose gold. Hermès rose gold is a bit different to other brands' rose gold.

I think absolutely a good value if you find pieces you love and wear them. I think their jewelry is uniquely creative, and beautifully crafted using very high quality materials. I favor yellow gold, and as they seem to mostly produce rose gold pieces, I've yet to buy anything in gold. But I love and wear my silver Hermes jewelry, have never regretted purchasing!

More recently, that's alas true. I was so sure a new model of earring came in in rg only I ordered them immediately to find they also came in yg (if I had but enquired first). My most worn earrings though so - c'est la vie

Generally:

Jewellery that is used to trade and for bridal is traditionally more 22K, anything outside bridal for jewellery in the West is 18K for high quality.

Nothing that is high-fashion, designer or in the luxury sector breaks down to materials + labour + overheads = X.

H more specifically:

You're paying for the research development of the design, the craftsmanship and the 'theatre' when you buy. Plus, of course the 'magic' name. That has always been the case. In terms of investment, H jewellery does well on the preloved market.

From experience:

I really appreciate the thought in terms of iconography/innovation design of H's fine jewellery. Most pieces are very wearable. The pieces are complimentary to the House but they have to make sense to you.

Invest in H style for wearing, invest in stocks/commodities/property for your portfolio.

I love “investing” in fine jewelry. Gold and diamonds are things that last and are low maintenance to me.
To me it’s very much a gut feeling.
I’ll do a lot of research and keep a wishlist for months or even years. And then when I go try it on in the stores I know in my heart when it’s a dead yes or no.

Rose/pink gold varies from house to house. I have rose gold pieces from Tiffany, Chanel and Bvlgari because they’re all similar enough for me to wear together. However Cartier rose gold is wayyyy too pink for my liking.
And I’ve worn my rose gold pieces daily for 4-5 years now. Despite being 18k, they are hardy and have worn beautifully.
Currently I’m on a yellow gold obsession , so I got my Cartier love in the yellow gold and I absolutely love it!
For Hermès I don’t have much experience, but when you go to try it on the store, bring one of your yellow gold pieces to compare and that may help you decide.

I'm no jewelry expert and thus do not buy as an investment but I have some pairs of rose gold earrings from H that I love design wise.

These in particular (the echappee medium) I get a lot of compliments on:
