Is My Brand New Authentic Gucci Bag Defective?

I see the picture of the inside lining. It is indeed not perfect but I don't think it is unusual. I own many different designer bags (except HERMEs... but one day:graucho:,) uneven stitching is pretty much present in all brand, specially on the underside of straps, inside lining, or edging. Usually, they try to achieve "perfect stitching" on the outside where stitching is visible. I think, if I can see the stitching uneven on the outside, I'd be more bothered.

I can see the monogram pattern not exactly the same across but that happens with other brands, too. I have seen worse.

Then again, if you love it, wear it and stop examing the bag with a microscope. It is a good rule of thumb on item "not exchangable" to just wear it out of the store... hey, it isn't going back anyways.

Hope you enjoy your bag.

Believe me, uneven stitching even Hermes on my crocodile Romance belt :-s

Thanks for the response. I never thought of how difficult of getting something I already paid for.

There is a lady in other thread about receiving first delivery from Gucci.com. How beautiful the package is! One of the best things of living in US is the huge choices of goods and services available there. Why can’t we have mail ordering services in Australia?

I am not the person to decide the outcome of this disagreement but I think I will sell my Mayfair and then make my order through the Gucci.com in US. My in-law lives there or I can order through a consignment company which endorsed by American Express.

I love Gucci and I will find a perfect one sooner or later.

I understand your concern with getting what you want especially at these prices, and I guess if the monogram alignment bothers you, you should do what you can for the problem to be fixed. The photos don't do your description justice.

I hope in the end, regardless the result you'd still love this gorgeous bag
Repost again as I didn't address the recipiant.

I can’t believe the SA actually said that. Don’t want to sound scary but is it called “misleading & deceptive conduct”?

Here is a valuable quote to consumers:” There is a very broad provision in the Australian Consumer Law that prohibits conduct by a corporation that is misleading or deceptive, or would be likely to mislead or deceive you. It makes no difference whether the business intended to mislead or deceive you—it is how the conduct of the business affected your thoughts and beliefs that matters. If the overall impression left by an advertisement, promotion, quotation, statement or other representation made by a business creates a misleading impression in your mind—such as to the price, value or the quality of any goods and services—then the conduct is likely to breach the law.”

People have different expectation on items with price tag of $14 and $1400. No matter how badly made this item still serves the purpose of a bag. Then it goes back to the quality of deluxe goods and general goods. This is the reason why we buy Gucci, the design, the craftsmanship and the material.

This is also the reason why you ran around 4 times to get it right. Likes me or anyone else, you compared yours with the one advertised on Gucci.com. You made “apple to apple” comparison and came to the conclusion that the bag you had before was not as good as you were told so.

touche touche, but who am I to complain about this, I am at the point where I just get what I want and that's it. However, overall I am satisfied with Gucci's service, this particular incident happened only once and doesn't hinder me from buying more stuff from them, probably the SA I was dealing with was just a bad person.

Hi ladies, it is time to update this thread.

It took so long to proceed with all paper works needed for the application to Tribunal. The case was publicly listed before both parties were called in for hearing. After a lengthy wait, it was finally done on 26/10/2011.

The negotiation on the day didn’t go as smoothly as I hope so. No mutual agreement was made until third party joined in for judgement. It was quick and clear the judgement was on my side. As suggested, this bag should be returned to the manufacturer!

Order was made on the same day that the bag needed return to the shop and I got my money back! The decision is final and legally bounded.

Often heard people complained about the quality going down and feel nothing can be done to improve anything. I think the least thing we can do is to tell them it is not ok when it is not ok.

I am happy it is all over. Thank you to those ladies who responded to my thread. I will be back to buy more Gucci bags because I am a genuine Gucci bags lover! I don’t have any issue with Gucci bags as there are many made with exceptional quality.

Thanks to “papertiger” for your encouragement. Many times I wanted to give up and walk away as it was much easier but am glad I didn’t.

I'm glad that it all worked out for you in the end showshow but WOW, it sounds like you had to go 'to the ends of the world' :sweatdrop: 10 out of 10 for you perseverance, it does to show that if you know your right not to take 'no' for an answer.

Like you said, I hope the experience has not put you off the brand. There have been a couple of occasions when I have had some dubious service from designer SAs (even Gucci - telling me that a scratch on the back of an exotic bag is natural to the skin or that they only sell the bags that are out the shelf - such rubbish, like I was 'born yesterday'). The Mayfair is so pretty but whichever one you choose in future, I hope you get the exact one you wish for.

I know this is an extremely old thread but I wanted to share my story here. I recently purchased a Gucci padlock bag at the Gucci boutique and upon bringing it home, I noticed black burn marks on the sides of the leather where it is stitched. I called my SA and they exchanged it for another one. Again I brought it home and realized that the padlock kept getting stuck when trying to open the bag so I went back yet again and of course, the SA checked it and he couldn’t get it to work so he went to the back and brought out a brand new bag, again. The stitching looked good with no burnt marks and the padlock seemed to be working so I brought it home. I waited a couple of days to use the bag after I had exchanged it for the 3rd time. While I was putting my things in the bag, I noticed that the padlock isn’t evenly centered with the gg canvas and that the upper side of the bag sticks out when the flap is folded on top to close (I’ll insert photos to view). When turning the back over, I noticed that the exterior pocket on the back of the bag isn’t even either. It is stitched a bit lower on one side than the other (and the stitching is also uneven). This makes the gg canvas on top and on the bottom look slanted. I have tried to google photos to see if these are flaws, defects, or if that is how the bag is but I’ve had no luck. The only photos I have found seem to be perfect and centered from every angle, front and back (go figure). I definitely do not want to go back to Gucci because they’ll probably think I am a crazy maniac perfectionist and, most importantly, I’ve already lightly scratched the hardware so I really cannot take it back now. Does anyone own the Gucci padlock shoulder bag? Do you see any imperfections on your handbag? I keep telling myself that these flaws and imperfections are just characteristics of the bag and I should just get over it and wear it but at the same time, I paid a lot of money for it and I expect it to be impeccable. I also don’t want someone to stare at my bag and think it’s a fake because of these flaws that my bag has. It’s a shame that these luxury designers flop on expensive bags and think it’s ok to sell imperfect merchandise for such a high price tag.
