Is Marc Jacobs a Classic?

IMO Marc Jacobs himself is a great designer and some of his bags are destined to be a classic if it's not already, i.e. the Venetia bag and the Stam.

I'm sure you'll learn more if you visit the MJ sub-forum, the ladies there are very knowledgable

Marc Jacobs bags are almost as prevalent as Coach these days. They're everywhere I turn...which makes them less special.

really? I rarely ever see MJ bags on the arms of women around here (and I work in downtown Chicago, in the heart of the loop!) On the other hand, I see TONS of LV bags, esp the brown coated canvas signature stuff -- speedys and totes and hobos -- I must see 5-10 every single day!! (I even see more Balenciaga bags, which are hard to come by in Chicago, then I see of MJ)

I can probably count on one hand the number of MJ bags I've spotted in the last 12 mos!

Are you referring to the the MbMJ line? Because I do see a lot of that around. However, I'm still hard pressed to see collection stuff in abundance anywhere I go regularly (even NYC!).

Anyway vdam10, you should save your $$ up for whatever makes your heart skip a beat:heart:. If you are drawn to MJ then I can assure you that you will not be disappointed with the quality and materials, nor the variety of lovely enduring designs. But if you are going to pay retail and are worried about hi resale value then go with Chanel. Of course if you follow this forum you will be able to find amazing deals on MJ. . .just saying;)

And I agree with what Spacey said. If the resale value is a big deal to you, I would go with Chanel. If the quality, style and design are what matters more to you, then definitely go with MJ.

Do you know I've never really given it much thought, classic or not, I buy MJ bags because I like them and they suit my life style. I don't see too many about, still a fair amount but not nearly as many as LVs, Channels, Balenciagas and Mulberrys - but then I'm in London and not in the US.

I definately think some of the styles are classics like the stam. I prefer MJ to LV cos I don't see one on every 5th person (I live in London) and I find Chanel boring.

Hey, thanks guys!! Though I do love the MJ stams and some of the other quilted bags, I think I'm going to hold out for Chanel since I do worry about resell value. I tend to get tired of bags easily and I'm just afraid that years along the way I would be tired of MJ and found that it's selling for 1/10 of what I paid for. But I'll lurk ebays for a used MJ so I wouldn't feel guilty if I get tired of it.

I feel the same way about the resale value. The good thing is that MJ can be found at deep discount for buying, even brand new if you are a careful shopper, and it's not so much the case with Chanel. I can hardly ever find a MJ clutch or pouch discounted new, though.

I used to carry Coach a lot and now i'm turning to MJ. MJ is a more expensive than Coach but i think Mj is more classic especially the collection bags. I love his leather, so rich and soft. I' m not really into trendy bags, that's why i stay away from Coach now. I see a lot of Mj bags that i own i can still wear them in 10 + years from now such as blake, mixed quilted tote, mercer,,,,
