Hi, I'm debating buying a Marc Jacobs but is worried about the classic-ness of it. What do you guys think? Is the brand something that would endure time like Chanel/LV/Gucci or is it just trendy? The prices is just as expensive (if not more) then the more classic brands.

i personally dont think marc jacobs holds the same cache as chanel/lv/gucci, but i do think that his designs are classic shapes and will endure the test of time. the prices are high because the quality is that good

Since he designs for LV that should prove that he can compete in that market. I think his designs are classic and he definitely is inspired by the classic brands and incorporates them into his designs. I think most of the stuff in his collection are classic/timeless, maybe some of the mbmj stuff is a little trendy but I wouldn't be embarrassed to wear it in 5 or so years so not that trendy.

Not necessarily the tradition of Chanel/LV, but certainly the status & the class! I would even suggest that for similar dollars, you actually get more for your money with MJ than LV. He does sumptuous, luxurious leathers for comparable prices to LV canvas. Pick a bag in a color you love and enjoy it!

Hm...should I save up money for a Chanel or a Marc Jacobs? I actually love his quilted stuff. The only thing is that I'm afraid of resell value. Chanel keeps their value very well while I'm not sure I could resell it as well with a MJ 10/20 years from now.

Some of his bags are definitely more classic than the others.. which is good cause you have plenty options to choose from.. and i agree, you get more for your money with MJ..

a resounding, definitive yes! i don't think mj should or can be compared to global luxury powerhouses like gucci, lv, or chanel. based on what i've seen, marc designs for a different woman. someone who's a little more quirky and irreverent, kwim? besides, even chanel has their trendy, flash-in-the-pan pieces. what's important is that the quality and details are well worth the price plus the warranty is rather generous compared to many, many other designers.

if you're worried about resale value, then i would stick to chanel. i personally don't buy a bag thinking that i'm going to be selling some time in the future, but i can understand why you'd be concerned.

The MARC JACOBS COLLECTION is definitely a classic. The elegance, the couture flair, sophisticated and distinctive in appearance. I think a Marc Jacobs woman holds more universal appeal than most other brands.

Marc by Marc Jacobs is indeed played out in some places, since the price point is considerably lower (lower than COACH, slightly higher than Juicy Couture sometimes).

I think it really depends on the style. Some of his designs are really classic when others are just trendy.

I have a patent white swagger and it's a design that I can imagine rocking middle age. (The Bark color is a little much, but trust me the white looks soooo much more luxurious and rich)

MJ is using one of my Italian manufacturers for production and he is definitely a designer to watch. If you like the style, then buy it and enjoy. But the more the brand becomes abundant the more it looses it's attraction. Like Coach, Furla and so on ...
