For those of you who own light color caviar bags, are they that high maintenance (in terms of color transfer or getting them dirty?) Your honest opinion please. I see so many people get beige claire color or other light color bags all the time. Do you wear them just like how you would wear a black bag? Are you worry at all? Thank you.

I have:

1) Beige Clair Caviar Jumbo GHW
2) White Caviar Jumbo SHW

My advice:
DO NOT wear brand new dark clothes with these bags. There will certainly be color transfer. I would only use it with clothes that have been sufficiently washed or are older.

I made the mistake of wearing one of these bags with a brand new dark green colored coat. It completely ruined the bag. I had to sell it at a loss and replaced it.

Oh no! Had you used any protection on the bags?

I had a white jumbo caviar GHW which I bought in 2012 and just sold to Fashionphile yesterday in excellent condition, no color transfer, no corner wear. I only wore it for the first few years but then hadn’t worn it for the past few years. I wear jeans a lot but I only wore the jumbo with double strap not crossbody. Maybe that’s why the bag didn’t get to touch the jeans a lot? I didn’t treat my white jumbo with anything either. See pics attached I took a couple of days ago.

Thumbs down from me. I  pale colors and have tried many but they always end up dirty, with color transfer, or white turning yellow over time. My grandmother gave me a white caviar Chanel camera bag and it had turned yellow and showed glue marks, so that happens to white caviar in time. My own white or gray items end up with color transfer on the corners or back and I only wear dresses and don't own pants, so jeans is not a thing, it's anything and sometimes I'm like WTH? I didn't wear anything that could cause this. I had a creme caviar easy flap and the color transfer got into the grooves of the leather. I had to sell it and took a major loss. I look at the colors I love now but never buy them anymore :sad: White and gray and pink and light colors = major special events only where I can baby it 100%, and it wouldn't be enjoyable to do that.

My Beige Claire Jumbo CF from 2012 has zero color transfer, nor wear and tear. Admittedly I only use it during spring/summer, but I've used it with dark clothing and I've not "babied" it while wearing, and have had absolutely no problems.

I have a white jumbo CF and use it a lot during the summer but I am careful about what I wear with it and even then after a couple weeks it’s always a little dirty but I can usually just wipe it clean. I also have a white birkin that has the same issue where it gets dirty in the corners and the back. But I still love my white bags and always recommend them!

I think as long as you don’t wear these bags with dark colored clothes then you should be fine.

My Chanel bags are all in dark colors and I don’t have any light colored bags yet, but if I ever get one I will only wear them with light colored clothes. Better to be careful than sorry, lol.

I have a grey caviar leather jumbo from 20C. It’s only a year old and rarely wore it (COVID). It sits on a shelf in my closet in the dark and sun in general is not an issue here in Seattle. Soon after I got it, it started yellowing. At first I thought it was all in my head, but over time (even while not using), it’s acquired a thorough yellow tinge. The contrast is noticeable between the bottom part and flap, a clear demarcation line when the flap is up. It’s terrible. In addition to the yellowing, the leather is peeling (popping). The little tops of the caviar mounds are popping off, leaving the raw leather underneath. It looks bad.

Sorry to hear that! I’m curious how it looks like. This is why I’m paranoid about getting light colored Chanel bags, especially if you consider how poor the qualities of the bags have become.

That sounds terrible. Could you possibly post pictures? And have you contacted Chanel?

It's very difficult to capture on camera. Also, in artificial light, it is not very noticeable. In daylight though it is very obvious. I did contact the SA that I bought the bag from (NYC and not my home store/current SA) and was basically told 'sorry to hear' and then she never replied again. My current SA is great and we will send it in to see what can be done.

While the white dots (popped caviar mounds) can be dyed and 'fixed', new ones are still appearing. So, my concern is that they'll fix the popped ones, but new ones will appear constantly. Plus, I don't think anything can be done about the yellowing.

The discoloration shows best on the picture with the CC. The piece that holds the CC is not discolored, but the leather of the flap itself is - it's very noticeable in that picture. On the back, the pocket piece is not discolored, but the leather of the bag around it, is. The picture of front with the flap open, you see a bit of discoloration on the bottom, but the part that was hidden/protected by the flap, is not as much discolored. it is very obvious in daylight, but doesn't capture well on camera.

Since different pieces of the leather (CC tab vs. main body vs. back pocket) are either discolored or not, to me is a sign that there is something wrong with the application of the 'color or protectant'. If it was from the elements (though it continues yellowing while sitting in the dark on a shelf), it would be all parts, not just the main part, with the pocket and tap not being affected (IMO). The leather in the strap has greatly discolored and is now darker than the body.

I'm heartbroken over this as I love this bag so much and I feel like I cannot use it anymore, unless I go out at night in a dimly lit restaurant  in which case, I wouldn't bring a jumbo.

Edited to add that I am being super carful with my bags and they do not get tossed around. They sit on my passenger seat then hand on my shoulder until they are back in the passenger seat. The bag otherwise has no wear and tear.
