Is Kelly 40 discontinued?

During my visit to Rome last weekend I specifically mentioned my wish of a K40 to an SA, to which she said she hasn't seen K40 and wasn't sure if they still made them in that size. I can't find any prices/information for a Kelly 40 in the 2019, 2020 or 2021 threads either. Does anyone have any intel? I'm looking to save for/buy for my first H bag and as an everyday bag (as a male) I think K40 retourne is the perfect bag since it has a shoulder strap and I believe that size wouldn't look too feminine/purse-like on my frame.

I was in FSH in late 2019 and specifically asked for K40. SA said none in stock and that Hermes was about to discontinue from normal production. SA also joked that it would be easier to request exotic B25 and that she could offer me one right then and there lol.

I believe this was actually the case since in the end FSH got me to place a la carte K40 in retourne style. For 2021 a la carte option, it was only K40 sellier on the offer. K40 is indeed becoming scarce.

Same meaning as a special order, if you are familiar with that term instead. It's the process where one submits an order to make a bag choosing bag style/colors/leathers/stitching/hardware etc. from a set of available choices.

Nowadays the two terms are used interchangeably although technically they (used to?) have slightly different meanings :smile:

But yeah, Kelly 40 sellier was available as a special order choice the current/soon to be last SO season (started Aug 2020 ends like now ish), but only Sellier and only in Epsom (chart posted here https://forum.purseblog.com/threads...ew-season-chart.925735/page-503#post-34398919)

I’m happy to share, that our beloved Kelly 40 is not discontinued. Probably a “rested” design that they make occasionally.

My newest addition, Taurillon Saddle Kelly 40 . Such an amazing surprise from my SA.

I like to think Taurillon Saddle is “cousins” with Barenia and Barenia Faubourg. It has the buttery feel of smooth Barenia. It’s grained (albeit not as pronounced) like Barenia Faubourg. It has a beautiful leather scent. Excited for the patina to come through in the coming years.

ALSO pleasantly surprised to find a leather wrapped cadena!

My SA has offered me a K40 retourne (classic color as he suggested) as a guy everyday bag. I will go to check out in shop next week.
But at this stage I am not sure if should take it, because what I have been thinking is a K35. Any views? I am 1.7m tall.
