Michael Kors Is it the new styles or is it us?

It's not just MK, it's other bags too. Too many rectangular boxy minimalistic bags that I'm bored with. There's only so much that can be done to make them look original. I miss Hobos, and soft leather, in lots of different styles and shapes. Thank God for Ebay.

I think it is the new styles and quality. I cannot put my finger on it, but the saffiano leather feels like bad plastic. And I'm someone who regularly buys or bought faux leather most of my life. I look at the first gen Sloan bags and then the 2017 batches and it is like night and day. The new stuff feels squeaky and like an imitation of former MK. I don't care if it's leather or not, but it looks meh. Even the collection pieces, most of which are creepy fur balls...

That said, the embossed bags are cute in the pictures. But I love embossed anything so don't trust me.

I agree with you, I know this is an older post, but I find that instead of increasing their price points like Coach or Kate Spade has, they have lessened their quality to keep most of their price points in the $300-400 range it seems. I heard they are using bonded leather, which is real leather, but processed pieces. Sort of like deli meat formed ham vs. spiral sliced? Both are real ham, but the formed deli meat is made with other stuff to get it all in one piece, whereas the spiral ham is one solid piece of muscle. Bonded is the lowest quality of leather.

Good analogy.

Still, other brands are using bonded leather; their technique is just better and less waxy in appearance than MK. I don't have any issues with faux leather or bonded leather, but I cant fathom why their quality should have to drop SO low unless it's trying to solidify their affordable luxury market status by any means necessary. Which seems odd, because why would you want to lower your image so much to end up in the clearance bins with bags and accessories selling for nearly a fraction of what your MSRP was?
I went into an MK boutique last weekend to see their croc embossed Mercer and was so disappointed in how it's not shiny like the photos on their website. I mean, if they went out of their way to make the bags seem shiny, its because they know it looks better.

I think the only thing MK has going for it now is the interior bag organization. But truthfully, Jessica Simpson and Brahmin bags have those features too. The only thing they're doing at the same acceptable level is accessories like watches and bag charms, but one only needs so many baubles, right?

I totally agree with donutsprinkles regarding the interior organization of the bags but now the newer bags don't have that either. The new selmas and totes have terrible pockets which don't hold any size phone let alone other things. Quite useless in my opinion.
