So it's a rainy day here and I'm surfing around on my iPhone and notice that our MK forum is the only one of the Contemporary Designers which had no new updates since I last looked.

Is it that we don't find the brand interesting anymore? Are the new styles less compelling? Or are we saturated with bags and bags in our closets? Or just plain satisfied? Or is it just me?

I think it's a combo. I agree with the poster above in that over saturation is the #1 reason. Also, a lot of us have moved on to other brands. Those that haven't are probably satisfied with what they already have.. :smile1:

Maybe we are all out enjoying our bags? :D

In the past two months, I've bought three MK, am kicking myself for being frugal and not getting 2 others, and am stalking a few different ones currently. I really enjoyed the late spring/summer lines after being kinda disappointed in the late winter releases.

I thought the zodiac charms were utterly precious and bought several of them just for the design ( I hate my zodiac symbol so I didn't get it). Also bought several of the lucky numbers charms. I bought a floral pave charm and have my eye on secondary markets for floral grommet charms.

I've also grabbed a few of the several bag straps and wishing I had gotten a couple others before they sold out.

I absolutely loved the geometric hexagonal studs and wished I had everything with them. I thought the large Rivington flat circle studs were gorgeous but I didn't end up pouncing when I had a chance.

I love the minimalistic shape of the Mercer tote. And that minimalism really allows the studs (or patent) to shine on each of those versions. I only got one of each but am eyeing a couple more.

If only I had infinite room in my home!

So I find it frustrating that MK isn't original. I get that there are only so many styles of bags that can be made, but my most recent gripe is the Gramercy. Coach released a bag a couple years ago called the Gramercy. It looked just like MK's Gramercy. Also, the Coach bag is a copy of the Fendi Peekaboo. Yeah, bag shapes will be repeated, but at least come up with a different name! Come on, MK.

Well I won't be buying any bags for awhile over the summer I purchased 1 Savannah,2 Ava's & 3 mercer totes. Which is too many! I've been switching my bags every 3 days just so I can get use of them. (I'm not really someone who has to have a bag match my outfit that day) there are tons of bags I want but for now I'm content & my money will be spent on vacation in Hawaii in February with the husband.

What brand(s) have you moved to instead?

Coach brought me back in with the 1941 line. They're coming out with a lot of original stuff at the moment. MK needs to follow suit. I keep wanting to go back to MK because I do love the colors and the price point, but the newer styles just seem like repeats of previous ones. I don't like how they're constantly recycling the same few colors now, too. I have a few newer MK bags at the moment, but I'm not as in love with them as I was when the Hamilton and Selma first came out.

This is awful! When I first heard of the MK Gramercy, I immediately thought of Coach. I never would have expected it to be an actual copy of the exact same bag! Do they not think we pay attention to this stuff??? Really off-putting.

This is just too much. I sold most of my MK collection but still have a few that I like. This kind of thing stops me from acquiring more. I really hope the brand turns thing around. Right now, I'm currently loving Coach and their new direction...:smile1:

Like Ubo, I'm pretty content with my current collection. I haven't bought any new bags in a while. I still use my MK bags almost daily so I'm still getting a lot of use from them. I wasn't very impressed with the new styles & decided to not buy anything new for a while. I'll be going through all my bags & will be thinning some out that I don't use enough to keep (that's all the designer bags). I need to make some room in the closet as it's gotten pretty crowded. I've focused more on jewelry lately, especially Tahitian & South Sea Pearls so I really need to visit Ban Island for a while. :graucho:

I think it is the new styles and quality. I cannot put my finger on it, but the saffiano leather feels like bad plastic. And I'm someone who regularly buys or bought faux leather most of my life. I look at the first gen Sloan bags and then the 2017 batches and it is like night and day. The new stuff feels squeaky and like an imitation of former MK. I don't care if it's leather or not, but it looks meh. Even the collection pieces, most of which are creepy fur balls...

That said, the embossed bags are cute in the pictures. But I love embossed anything so don't trust me.
