Is Current Coach with Glove Tanned Leather Similar to 1941 Line?

My apologies for starting a new thread. Somewhere, there is a thread dedicated to the demise of the 1941 line, but I cannot find it. That is probably where this question belongs.

People on that thread stated that 1941 is gone. Someone there said it is only the branding that is gone; the collection is still being made and the hang tag tells give you information because the 1941 collection now has a horse and carriage and the non-1941 has the regular hang tag.

My question is this, if the difference the leather? If it is stamped "glove-tanned leather," does that mean it came from the 1941 collection? An eBayer made that statement and I am curious if it is true.

Thanks!

1941 is a specific line, while it does contain bags made with glovetanned leather, the type of leather isn’t necessarily specific to one line. For example, the Coach ‘Legacy’ line also features items made with glove tanned leather. Hope that helps.

Coach 1942 is a distinct line and it has equally distinct features: a metallic Coach plaque on the any tag, usually some sort of suede or leather lining in the interior, and canvas cloth when interiors are not fully leather. 1941 bags generally do not feature certain leathers, and this includes sport calf. Interestingly, bags are being released that have all the hallmarks of 1941 but are not being branded as 1941, such as this one:

There are full price Coach bags that state they are made of glovetanned leather that are not 1941. You can tell by the hang tag and interior. Generally, if a bag is lined in non-suede microfiber or black nylon that has "Coach" written in the weave, it is not 1941.

You will know by the hangtag and the interior if a bag is made in the 1941 style or not. And as said before, certain full price bags made with glovetanned leather that are not in the 1941 style, and many are worth buying/carrying. I'd focus more on style and utility than which line a full priced bag is. However, a 1941 bag's style is very distinct, and the while the hangtag cannot guarantee a bag is being branded as 1941, there is no such thing as a 1941 bag without that metal carriage on it.

Your last statement is not necessarily true, because it's Coach and why not throw inconsistency into the mix! When the 1941 line first came out around January 2016 the Dinky and the saddle bag did not come with the hang tag with the metal carriage and the metal on top. These bags came with two regular Coach leather hang tags. I think the idea was that the extra was meant for the monogramming. I'm not sure exactly when they changed this but I bought one of the first Dinkys and I had two of the first saddle bags when they first came out in early 2016.

I stand corrected. And I really thought I had this whole 1941 thing figured out lol.

There a bunch of variations coming out lately.

The new line of Originals coming out have the 1941 'hidden' stamp, 1941 cotton dustbag, leather lining, genuine glovetanned leather outer embossing, and 1941 cardboard price tag, but a basic hangtag not metal on hangtag.

There are others with micro fabric lining vs suede or leather lining that have the metal carriage hangtag, 1941 cotton dustbag and cardboard 1941 price tag that have the "Genuine glovetanned Leather" stamped on them along with the canvas twill inner pockets. I'm not sure if these have the hidden 1941 stamp on them. (troupe, KF line etc) but all the marks of 1941 except the micro lining.

The latest bag I received has micro fabric lining, genuine glovetanned pebble leather embossed on front, canvas lined inner pocket, metal on hangtag, but nylon dustbag and regular price tag.
So remember Coach will keep you on your toes with the inconsistencies.

I was curious about this in terms of the Callie clutch. It's genuine glovetanned and fully leather --with the exception of a zip fabric pocket (that does have "coach" printed on it)-- but Callie's don't come with a hangtag so no clues there, and it didn't have a hidden stamp either. (Mine is from Fall'18 though--maybe newer Callie's have the stamp? does anyone know?) However the creed is stamped with 1941, and it did come with the 1941 cotton dustbag. Looking online, the Coach website descriptions are no help! I actually called the Coach line to ask, and the rep wasn't sure either.

I guess it doesn't really matter. It's a very pretty, well-made bag, but I sort of want to know to know. You know?

I have a metallic graphite with metallic tea rose one and it came with the large cardboard tag and 1941 dustbag so I assume it's 1941. I'm not sure what lining is in the zip pocket... I think it depends on which bag. For some reason I think I remember the Glovetanned ones being advertised 1941 back when 1941 was a thing. Looking online I wouldn't for example think the one in signature would be 1941, but since they've blurred the lines now I really just care how the leather feels.

Eta: here's another I bought back before they were named Callie, listed as 1941.

Thank you for your reply! Yeah, the blurred lines is confusing (thanks Coach) but I guess it doesn't matter if the quality is there. I agree that the feel is part of what's really important to me.
