Hi all, would appreciate your views and inputs on my dilemma.

am considering to get a classic flap jumbo but with the price ,I could also get a Hermès lindy .
and many people are saying hermes holds its value better than Chanel and theIr quality is much better.

just wondering do people still buy CF now with such prices ? i am not considering the pre loved market as I would prefer direct boutique purchase . And I suppose they will be increasing prices again sooner or later.

i am just considering to add another bag to my collection,I don't own any Hermès yet though.as the prices of Chanel edges towards Hermès ,what's your thoughts ? Would it be unwise to buy a brand new jumbo now?

thank you in advance

Just go for what you love and want rather than what will hold its value. For example if you settle for the Hermes but have always wanted and lusted for the jumbo, just get it, before you regret it. That's my advice for what its worth. A bag is worth how much you love it and wear it but not necessarily the latter. You can own a bag and not wear it that often but it can still bring you incredible happiness and joy.

These are very different bags so it's hard to compare. You made two good points: [1] quality - agreed that there seems to be more threads in this subforum around quality than few years back, and also more quality related threads compared to the Hermes subforum. It's unfortunate but from most stories here, it seems like most people are able to do an exchange without too much problem. [2] holding value - Lindy doesn't hold value as well B/K/C from Hermes. So if you're comparing the CF jumbo to the Lindy, my suspicion is that the CF jumbo would fare better in that department.

My advice would be assess which style actually suits your need. If you go for the jumbo, inspect it well; if you go for Lindy, expect that it will actually drop value.

Thanks dear, love what you said about the bag's worth .
actually I am not so sure if I really love the jumbo because it's like i didnt buy it two years ago cos i didnt love it enough back then. But now this bag is back in my consideration again hahah .i find myself always creating the "need" for another bag .its really sinful haha

Do you own another size classic flap? People say buy what you love, but if you have never carried a Jumbo you would not know if you love it or not. The weight and boxiness of the Jumbo can get annoying. I prefer classic flaps either M/L or even Jumbo over the Lindy. But even more so a Birkin or Kelly, but I know they are crazy expensive. But now the Jumbo is crazy expensive too. So if you did not have any classic flaps I would highly recommend the M/L.

I own a mini rectangle flap. ya actually was thinking between medium or large ( jumbo) .my SA said jumbo is large. Ya man The classic flap design is better than those Hermès designs .it's just the crazy prices now that made me contemplate

Like fishnumber2 said, the classics will resale better than the Hermès Lindy. I have the Jumbo and has been considering the Lindy, and after observing the market for some time, only the mini Lindy sell for above retail currently. But even that trend might fade because the mini Lindy is a new hot item, and while Lindies of all sizes are currently harder to get due to the pandemic slowing down production, historically it’s not that hard to get and it’s also not considered a classic of the house the same way a Birkin/Kelly/Constance is.

I had the same dilemma as you. I choose the jumbo since it is the most classic style of the brand. At the same price the lindy is not hermes' most well known style. However I think the quality of the jumbo caviar now, although the ones I saw were made in France, is not as good as a few years ago.

I agree with everyone. Get what you love and don't focus on the resale value. The value of the purse is based on how much you value it. Go in and try them on. I like both Chanel and Hermes. However, like you, the design of chanel appeals to me more than hermes except for the trio (B/K/C). I agree too that the quality of Hermes is better, but if Chanel and Jumbo is still in the back of your mind.. and it's been two years and you're still thinking about it.. I would just get it before another price increase. I just recently bought the Jumbo and love it! Also, like others are saying, the lindy mini is the only one that is higher in resell value and that's because it's really hard to get. However, I think B/K/C is better to buy first compared to the lindy. However, again it's all up to you and what you want.

GL on your decision!!

Ditto to what has already been said. Just wondering if you have tried out the bags irl? I have both jumbo and Lindy. To be honest my jumbo has not been out of the closet much due to its weight whereas I use the Lindy every now and then. Trying it out helps you realize how the bag would fit into your lifestyle. Good luck with your decision!!

not sure why the quality is worse now when prices are much higher right ?
