I love my bags and they are not an investment.

I buy them if/when I can afford them and I use them with absolute joy.

The thought of selling them or constantly worrying what they’re worth if I scratch one, use it too much, if it becomes dated, if the designer quits, if IG bloggers suddenly hate it, if it becomes common .... and on it goes ... doesn’t matter to me.

What are your thoughts?

Same as you, love my bags, pay a lot for them and therefore I wear them everyday. Slouching, creasing, veins, patina etc are all good in my eyes - it’s leather! If I get fed up with one, or it doesn’t work for me, I sell it for whatever it’s worth, or donate it. End of
Fed up with is this stitch a nanometre shorter than that one drama, and in particular the I’ve scuffed my bag and it’s a quality issue and therefore the brands fault and I want my money back  [Thanks for letting me get that off my chest :graucho:]

Yes, I get super annoyed.

I spend bags to enjoy them and wear them, not worried about it gonna hold me money or gain me profits.

No offense, but I am not paying premium money for a used premier designer bag. I don’t even want to pay at 20% below or definitely not above of it retail price. I want a good deal on a used bag, otherwise I will consider alternatives to spend a new bag straight from the boutique of brand X, Y, Z for a brand new one.

I don't have many designer bags but can relate about cars as it's similar.

I don't worry about mileage on my car, I don't cry when it gets a tiny scuff. I drive the h$ll out of it and trade it in when I'm done . Often at a loss.

Does it make me sad? No, I enjoyed the car and got a brand new one when I was done with it. Did I lose money? Absolutely .It's life though ,I had fun and enjoyed it .I didn't baby it, I beat the crap out of it and had a blast .

I think some people can get a bit dramatic over miniscule things but I just chalk that up to different personalities. Some people are worrisome while others are carefree. I don't mind hearing people vent on here about it . In fact , some of the time they end up seeing that the scratch wasn't really that bad after all and they are able to move on and live with it . If it helps them to vent about it on here , I'm good with that. In real life people handle situations in all different ways . Some cry over the spilled milk while others just grab the rag .

I also don't play that game. I'm not going to buy used to save $50. I'll just go to the boutique and spend the extra$50. Last night I saw a bag and had to laugh at the listing-
Retail boutique price- 1500
Mercari used price- 1450

Not for me! Lol

I don’t mind concerns on resell too much but it limits your choices to something like 15 bags out of hundreds.

I do roll my eyes when someone starts a sentence with “I’m thinking about investing in....”. And yes I think the stitch in the wrong direction thing is ridiculous too. You need to keep some amount of grounding even in luxury.

Ditto to what was said above on saving $100 - will just buy new instead.

I agree wholeheartedly with you

I kind of think you should only buy it if you can afford to ruin or lose it.

Edit: spelling (type in a rush when geared up) [emoji23]

Oh no don’t get me started on cars. I know people who park 3 miles from the supermarket door so no one parks besides them and bangs their car. In fact my sister bought a new car with funds gifted to her then wouldn’t drive it, kept and taxed/insured the old one at great cost to spare miles. Groan ....

My ex husband reversed at speed into the side of my little sports MG which had very intricate side panels. He was nearly in tears and I had to reassure him it didn’t matter as it was an accident and could be fixed. My saying to most dramas are “is anybody dead?” ...

Absolutely  It’s just stuff. I knew someone who always liked to park right next to the far end of the car park guys  just to give them a fright!

I'm the same way .I don't intentionally try to destroy my cars but I certainly don't cry over a scratch . I would rather have fun and enjoy it. I look at cars as a depreciating asset , most won't hold their value anyway so what's the point of babying it? Lol I punch the gas when the light turns green, I slam my breaks when it turns red . I have even been known to allow my teenaged kids to drive them! Lol

I think the buy/sell, win/lose philosophy is a hobby for many.
And this extends into handbags.
As I buy new from brand stores, completely slaughter handbags, then donate--not my thing.

I do find, "I sold to a lovely tpfer," & the likes/resale business promotion & member personal blog/insta/etc. plugs here quite tedious.
But few ask me to buy their stuff anymore. So no biggie.

I absolutely love your attitude, I often put mine in fuel guzzling sport mode

HAHAHHAAAA are your relative Germans?

I will never ever forget the following scenario: 20 years ago I was working in HR. One of the seniors would always be late. Asked by the boss himself why this happened he replied (wait for it, it's a good one):

"Well, you see... we have bad weather outside and I didn't want to park my car at the side of the street. So I moved into a hotel that provides a garage. Unfortunately public transport isn't close by and I have to change lines 2 times, so I'll be always late until the weather improves and I can move back to my flat."

(wait, it'll become even better).

All men nodded, the boss turned around to his secretary and said " Please postpone all dates for Mr *** for the rest of the week that start early,".

That said, the cars was nothing special, Audi, BMW don't know any more, frankly said.*

*mind: I am German, located in Bavaria (yet), none of that brand is considered "really special" over here. it's an "ok brand", probably as both are located in Bavaria.

Re. bag: nope. I buy them I love them I use them and I wouldn't ever think of reselling value as otherwise I'd buy an ounce of Gold. Period.
