Is a Cartier watch more “quiet luxury” than a Rolex?

Cartier just like Chopard is more of a jewelry brand not a watch brand but they do make very beautiful and elegant watches. Their mechanisms are pretty simple so they’re not considered to be “real” watches like Rolex and Breguet but I love its style.
Rolex is considered a bit tacky, if I may say.
That be told I own both Rolex and Cartier watches and adore them.

If you want quiet luxury go for Breguet or AP. Breguet is reaaaaaally an old money watch.

Both are high profile brands, but men tend to go for a Rolex over Cartier which makes Rolex particularly popular and loud compared to Cartier watches.

If you were comparing Cartier jewelry to other jewelry brand then the role would be reversed and Cartier would be loud.

Almost everyone would recognize a Rolex, and that is the primary reason I have hesitated to get one. I do think about getting one with a black dial, though, for casual wear. The secondary reason is that Cartier is more my style and goes better with the rest of my jewelry, and I don't think most people are familiar with Cartier watch styles unless they are familiar with Cartier in general. Cartier is less accessible where I live, whereas almost all medium and large cities have a Rolex dealer (or multiple). I never had anyone comment on my Tank that knew what it was. I am not interested in the most high end watches. I rarely wear a watch since my phone is my primary source of time, so it wouldn't be worth it to me to have a $30-50k watch. My girls prefer Apple watches and have told me they aren't interested in my future hand-me-down watches!!!
