I came across this article and thought I would share: http://mobile.nytimes.com/2014/08/04/fashion/upending-expectations-about-the-hottest-handbag-brands.html?referrer=&_r=0

Very interesting and thank you for posting. This should not come as a ANY sort of surprise though, most of us people here are *ahem* enthusiasts, and have specialist knowledge which the average punter does not.

Ralph Lauren? Really? Apart from that really, nothing else here is shocking. Most people include prices as a major part of their decision to buy - not surprising to see Michael Kors ***** Hermes.

RL does make nice bags for a reasonable price. MK are everywhere. Burberry and Fendi surprise me. And CK?

In the last year or so Calvin Klein bags have undergone a makeover. There's been a definite move towards less aggressive logos and more reliance on saffiano leather and understated style. For example....

I see them discounted in the stores (TJ Maxx, NR) but I haven't noticed a lot of people carrying them and haven't seen much talk her on TPF about them.
Kind of surprised Dooney & Burkey didn't make the list

A few years ago I got a mini Chanel flap inspired one from CK for $100. Won't be buying a real Chanel ever. The cute mini quilted was perfect for a evenings out. And cheap enough that I wouldn't mind if it wasn't my most durable bag as it was only occasional use. :)

I am now retiring it to consignment because it is a bit too small. Might be tempted to get another bigger one.

Could be a plan, Jade. My only other Calvin Klein is another one in saffiano leather. It suits my needs very nicely and was a price I could easily afford.

Surprised by RL, was expecting LV/MK to be on that place. Also interesting to see that brands like Balenciaga, Celine or Givenchy are not in the chart.

I know many women who are totally against logo bags.
RL makes several that are current styles which have no logo.
Most of their bags are a very nice quality which great feeling leathers.

In my region there are let's say three classes of people (in terms of the general public). To simplify things here are the types:
1. Big money, big logos - most people with premier designer bags stick with LV monogram or Damier or really recognizable It bags. Ones my mom might even know
2. Accessible / Affordable luxury: the Coach / MK / Kate Spade classic american look. Sometimes logged sometimes not.
3. No designer bags at all. A ton of the handmade type you'd pick up at the Tibetan store or the ones in the hipster store that are vegan made of recycled burlap sacks, seatbelts or bicycle tires.
