So when I saw this bag last momth, I thought it was cute, but the finishes were too embellished for me.
I realized I really do not have the right work bag - I carry a backpack, wanted a crossbody formmy essentials. Mid-sized in case I need to do an errand, and something that could transition to evening. And not be too fancy for my casual work place.
A tall order. I scanned the Coach site and found the new 1941 Swagger crossbody came in a more neutral finish. So I picked up this one today - it wasn't yet on the floor. I did a store pickup.
I don't have pics yet, but here are some observations.
There are three ways to wear this - clutch, shoulder and crossbody. The strap has two default positions. I wouldn't mind the crossbody to be a little longer (I am 5'4", busty and size 14/16). But you could totally extend the strap all the way and not use the pins. This placed it below my hip. If you have a friendly neighborhood leather person - you could get them to punch a few extra holes for you to add another position.
Mine was a little dry when I took a closer look at home so I moisturized.
This leather is stiffer (at least on the flap) than other 1941 bags. I am hoping it'll soften up some with use. I imagine you'll end up with a crease at the flap since the magnet is pretty stromg and takes finagling to open up. The quilting adds a lot of structure as well. The base is more like the typical softer glovetanned leather.
The bag is not large, you can fit jn some essentials and a full size wallet if it is not too thick. There might be a bit of tetris for me to get my stuff in, no full sized lotion for me! The external slip pocket is a little bigger than card size, but not phone sized. But you can stick your phone there and it sticks up a little. The two compartments look to be about the same size.
As for the 1941 details? There are some little bits of dark cherry trim. I really like the C-links. It is clever branding. The hang tag also has a mini key fob attached, and some more c's attached. The bag itself has minimal branding other than the chain and the strap hardware has logos.
If you need a small to mid-sized bag, check this one out. I want to break it in a little to get that smidge of more room for my wallet. I am a little worried about the black copper finish, so we will see how it wears. The strap is multi-colored, so it won't be as noticeable.
This will bee a cute, albeit slightly heavy clutch. I am intrigued to see if more bags will use this style of strap and if there will be more interchangeable ones.
